Common use of Furlough Days Without Pay Clause in Contracts

Furlough Days Without Pay. Subject to the prior written approval of the appointing authority, employees may elect to take furlough days or hours without pay (pre-authorized absence without pay), up to a maximum of fifteen (15) calendar days for any one period. Longer pre-authorized absences without pay are considered leaves of absence without pay. Employees who take furlough time shall have their compensation for the portion of the month worked computed in accord with Section 5.6 - Compensation for Portion of Month of this MOU. Full time and part-time employees who take furlough time shall have their vacation, sick leave, floating holiday, and any other payroll computed accruals computed as though they had worked the furlough time. When computing vacation sick leave, floating holiday, and other accrual credits for employees taking furlough time, this provision shall supersede Section 11.3 – Vacation Accrual During Leave Without Pay, Section 12.2 – Credits To and Charges Against Sick Leave, Section 12.6 – [Sick Leave] Accrual During Leave Without Pay, and Section 16.1 – [Leave of Absence] Leave Without Pay of this MOU regarding the computation of vacation, sick leave, floating holiday, and other accrual credits as regards furlough time only. For payroll purposes, furlough time (absence without pay with prior authorization of the appointing authority) shall be reported separately from other absences without pay to the Auditor-Controller. The existing Voluntary Time Off program shall be continued for the life of the contract.
