Common use of Hiring of Retired Teachers Clause in Contracts

Hiring of Retired Teachers. Any bargaining unit member who retires under STRS and subsequently is reemployed in the district may be hired at a rate of pay different from his or her years of service as specified in the salary index contained in this Agreement. Any teacher employed under this article shall be placed at the appropriate salary schedule placement on the salary schedule as determined by the administration at a minimum of Step 3 on the salary schedule with appropriate credit for educational placement. This provision and such salary and individual contract with a member expressly supersedes RC Section 3317.13 and all other applicable laws. While employed by the district subsequent to retirement, such member who is interested in obtaining health care benefits may enroll and participate in such health care benefits offered by the District pursuant to the terms of this Contract. Such retired member is not eligible to receive a severance payment upon leaving employment with the district. This provision of the agreement and such salary and contract will not be grievable under the grievance procedures of this agreement nor through any claim or action filed before the State Employee Relations Board (SERB) or any other court of law. Positions that are paid with grant money or Title funds, or ones that are short-term may be paid at such rates as: substitute pay, tutor rate, or beginning teacher rate.
