LEAVES OF ABSENCE AND BEREAVEMENT PAY. 21.01 The Employer may grant leaves of absence without pay, for a time mutually agreed upon between the Employer and the employee, for the following reasons: a) Marriage of the employee; b) Sickness of the employee or employee's immediate family; c) Birth or adoption of the employee’s child; d) Union business, other than the establishment of this Agreement; e) Death of a family member not outlined in Article 21.02; f) Job related training; or g) Other personal reasons as approved by the Employer. h) Other leaves as per Employment Standards 21.02 An employee will be granted a three (3) day leave of absence with pay, at the employee’s regular straight time hourly rate (eight (8) hours per day), to make arrangements for and to attend the funeral of the employee's spouse, common law spouse, child, father, mother, legal dependent, father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother, sister, grandparents, and grandchildren. Further time may be granted by mutual agreement between the Employer and the employee. To receive such pay the employee must return to work unless notified during the leave of a layoff. 21.03 Following a leave of absence, employees who fail to report back for work as scheduled without giving a justifiable reason will be deemed to have voluntarily quit.

To receive such pay In order to qualify for this payment, employees must upon request, provide the employee must return to work unless notified during employer with proof of funeral. Such proof may include name and phone number of the leave of a layofffuneral home, newspaper clippings, etc.
21.03 Following a leave of absence, employees who fail to report back for work as scheduled without giving a justifiable reason will be deemed to have voluntarily quit.
