Common use of Minimum Observation Criteria Clause in Contracts

Minimum Observation Criteria. During each school year all classroom teachers and certificated support personnel shall be observed for the purposes of evaluation at least twice in the performance of their assigned duties. Total observation time for each employee for each school year shall be not less than sixty (60) minutes. As appropriate, the evaluation of the certificated classroom teacher may include the observation of duties that occur outside the classroom setting. The evaluator shall recognize that evidence for the evaluation process may be more readily available to the employee in their work environment. To that end, the employee may request the evaluation conference be held in the classroom. In the years when a comprehensive summative evaluation is not required, classroom teachers who received a comprehensive summative evaluation performance rating of level 3 or above in the previous school year are required to complete a focused evaluation. A focused evaluation includes an assessment of one of the eight (8) criteria selected for a performance rating plus professional growth activities specifically linked to the selected criteria. The teacher-selected criteria must be approved by the evaluator and may have been identified in a previous comprehensive summative evaluation as benefiting from additional attention or as an area of expertise to be further developed. A group of teachers may focus on the same evaluation criteria and share professional growth activities. The evaluation of classroom teachers will include the following:
