November December. All Students will learn how to use all the tools in the machine shop safely and must pass a test for each before they will be allowed to use each individual machine. It is expected that everyone be able to use all machines safely, even if they do not intend to use the machine during the build. January March: Kickoff is the start of the build season. On kickoff the new game will be revealed, and the playing field will be built in our shop. It is mandatory that all students attend kickoff, but we encourage everyone to attend. This year’s kickoff will be January 7th, 2023, we will start about 8:30am. Parents are encouraged to learn as much of the game as possible. Students and mentors should expect to spend all day Saturday and Sunday of kickoff in the shop determining general strategy and direction for the robot build. After kickoff, students will be meeting daily to build the robot. The schedule will be daily after school until 9:00p. Each student is responsible for their own dinner during build season. We will provide refrigerated storage during the day. We are planning on a family style dinner every Friday evening during build to catch up and strategize for the next week. We will also be meeting on Saturdays during the build season. We will start at 9:00a until 5:00p. Students are responsible for lunch on Saturdays. Should we run later into the night, dinner will also be provided. No student will be expected nor allowed to stay past 9:00p on any night. Sundays may also be added to the build season as the season progresses and depending on the time needs to complete the robot. Every student will be appointed as the lead clean up person at least twice during the build season. On that night, the student is expected to coordinate the cleanup effort in the machine shop and make sure everyone is putting everything away. A clean shop is a safe shop. School closings will affect the build season. If school is closed for the day due to weather, robotics will not be meeting. If the weather is getting bad, we may or may not meet. Please be sure that you fill out your contact information on page 33 so we will be able to get in contact with you if the schedule changes. Build season is very challenging on everyone. Our founding mentors have both been students on a team and also mentors on a team, so they know multiple perspectives of these challenges. The most important thing to keep in mind is balance.
