Obstetric Nurses. Obstetric Nurses floated to other units shall not be 30 assigned a primary patient assignment to avoid violating AWHONN 31 staffing standards. At a minimum there will always be at least one RN in 32 the unit. However, they may be asked to float and provide supplemental 33 assistance. Such supplemental assistance shall be limited to duties from 1 which the Obstetric nurse can be immediately released in order to care 2 for an obstetric patient. “Immediate release” means it will take no more 3 than four (4) total minutes to be released, complete their return to the 4 Labor and Delivery unit, and be prepared for the emergent situation. 5
