Common use of Paid Compassionate Leave Clause in Contracts

Paid Compassionate Leave. (i) A teacher is entitled to paid compassionate leave in accordance with the Act and subject to the terms and conditions of the Act. (ii) For the purposes of this clause, compassionate leave is paid leave taken by a teacher: (A) for the purposes of spending time with a person who: (i) is a member of the teacher's immediate family or household as defined in the Act; and (ii) has a personal illness, or injury, that poses a serious threat to his or her life; or (B) after the death of a member of the teacher's immediate family or household as defined in the Act. (iii) Subject to sub-clauses 24.7(b)(i) and (ii), a full-time or part-time teacher is entitled to a period of two days of compassionate leave for each occasion when a member of the teacher's immediate family or household: (A) contracts or develops a personal illness that poses a serious threat to his or her life; or (B) sustains a personal injury that poses a serious threat to his or her life. (iv) Subject to sub-clauses 24.7(b)(i) and (ii), a full-time or part-time teacher is entitled to a period of three days of compassionate leave for each occasion when a member of the teacher's immediate family or household dies.
