Pay for Acting in a Senior Capacity. Where an employee is temporarily required to accept the responsibilities and carry out the duties of a position covered by this Agreement which is senior to the position which the employee normally holds, the employee shall be paid for those hours that the duties of the senior position are carried out at the minimum rate in the scale for such senior position, except when: (a) the salary received in the employee’s own position is equal to, or exceeds, the minimum of the senior position, in which case the next higher rate in the pay range of the senior position shall be paid; (b) the employee is at the top rate in their own scale, and 7(a) applies, acting assignments will be accumulated for purposes of increments (period to equal twelve (12) months) in the senior position, provided each assignment equals or exceeds one (1) pay period. (c) Appointments of employees to a level of higher responsibility must be authorized in writing by the Department Head.
