Personal Protective Equipment and Protective Clothing. Definitions Personal protective equipment (PPE) is defined as equipment or devices worn or used to control exposure to hazardous substances or conditions or to prevent accidental injuries or serious harm to employees working in hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions or areas. PPE includes, but is not limited to head protection, hearing protection, eye and face protection, body protection, hand protection, foot protection, respiratory protection and fall protection. Protective work clothing is attire worn over or in place of regular clothing to protect the employee from hazards. Protective work clothing may include, but not be limited to coveralls, overalls, aprons, laboratory coats, rainwear, high-visibility clothing, and in some cases, shirts and pants. Conditions • Personal protective equipment will be utilized when hazards cannot feasibly be controlled or eliminated by other means. • Personal protective equipment will be properly fitted to the user and instruction on the use, care, maintenance and limitations of the PPE will be provided. • Defective or damaged PPE should be reported to the supervisor and shall not be used. • PPE and protective clothing that has been worn next to the skin by employees shall be cleaned and disinfected before it is re-issued to other employees. • Before any PPE is used by employees, employees will be made aware of the reasons for using the PPE and how to properly use and maintain it • Replacement of PPE and protective clothing will be conducted on an “as required” basis, based on its condition, expiry and/or manufacturers’ instructions.

  • Personal Protective Clothing 11.1 On commencement of employment with the Employer each employee will be issued with the following; • Two pairs of overalls or agreed alternative such as two shirts and two pairs of pants or jeans. • One pair of approved safety boots to the value of $75.00 increasing to a value of $80.00 from 1 July 2006, increasing to a value of $85.00 from 1 July 2009. • One bluey jacket or agreed equivalent (May to October). This committee may make recommendations on such equipment (e.g., gloves, long sleeved gowns, masks, goggles). These shall be maintained and replaced, where necessary, at the Employer's expense. Where the committee recommends the wearing of such protective clothing and equipment, and the Employer implements such recommendation, employees are obligated to comply with such recommendation(s).

  • Uniforms and Protective Clothing 28.1 Where the employer requires an employee to wear a uniform, it shall be provided free of charge, but shall remain the property of the employer.

Said equipment shall remain the property of the Employer. Any worn out safety equipment will be replaced by the Employer upon presentation of the worn equipment. The employees shall be held responsible for loss or improper maintenance of Employer furnished items, including personal protective equipment, rain gear and safety equipment, in which case employees may, at the discretion of the Employer, be subject to disciplinary action.
