Prison Visiting Committees Sample Clauses

Prison Visiting Committees. Under the Prisons (Visiting Committees) Act, 1925 and the Prisons (Visiting Committees) Order, 1925, a visiting committee is assigned to each of the 12 currently operational prisons. The committee members comprise individuals from across society and are appointed by the Minister. The role of each committee is to visit its designated prison at frequent intervals and to hear any complaints which a prisoner may wish to convey to the committee. The committees focus on issues such as the quality of accommodation, catering, medical, educational, welfare and recreational facilities. Committee members have free access, either collectively or individually, to every part of their assigned prison. Each committee provides the Minister with an annual report on its findings. The reports are published on the Department’s website.
