Common use of Purpose of Sick Leave Clause in Contracts

Purpose of Sick Leave. ‌ Sick leave shall not be considered as a privilege which an employee may use at the employee's discretion, but shall be allowed only in case of sickness or disability of the employee or in the case of serious illness within the immediate family of the employee. Not more than fifteen (15) working days (120 hours prorated for part- time benefited employees) in any calendar year may be taken as sick leave because of the illness of a member of the employee's immediate family. The immediate family of an employee, for the purpose of this Section, shall be defined as: a dependent residing in the employee’s household or parent, spouse, child, legal guardian or xxxx, grandparent, grandchild, register domestic partner, or sibling. If the employees has no spouse or registered domestic partner, the employee may designate one person as to whom the employee may use paid sick leave to aid or care for the person. The opportunity to make such a designation shall be extended to the employee no later than the date on which the employee worked 30 hours after paid sick leave gains to accrue pursuant to Section 20.2 and
