Uses of Sick Leave a. Sick leave shall be accrued before being taken, provided that an employee who participates in a sick leave pool shall not be prohibited from using sick leave otherwise available to the employee through the sick leave pool.
b. Sick leave shall be authorized for the following:
1. The employee's personal illness or exposure to a contagious disease, which would endanger others.
2. The employee's personal appointments with a health care provider.
3. The illness or injury of a member of the employee's immediate family, at the discretion of the supervisor. Approval of requests for use of reasonable amounts of sick leave for caring for a member of the employee's immediate family shall not be unreasonably withheld. "Immediate family" means the spouse and the grandparents, parents, brothers, sisters, children, and grandchildren of both the employee and the spouse, and dependents living in the household.

4. The death of a member of the employee's immediate family, at the discretion of the supervisor. Approval of requests for use of reasonable amounts of sick leave, in addition to paid Bereavement Leave otherwise provided by this Policy, for the death of a member of the employee's immediate family shall not be unreasonably withheld.
c. A continuous period of sick leave commences with the first day of absence and includes all subsequent days until the employee returns to work. For this purpose, Saturdays, Sundays, and official holidays observed by the State shall not be counted unless the employee is scheduled to perform services on such days. During any seven (7) day period, the maximum number of days of sick leave charged against any employee shall be five (5).
d. An employee who requires the use of sick leave should notify the supervisor as soon as practicable.
e. An employee who becomes eligible for the use of sick leave while on approved annual leave shall, upon notifying the supervisor, substitute the use of accrued sick leave to cover such circumstances.
Uses of Sick Leave. An employee shall be granted sick leave with pay to the extent of the employee’s accumulation for absences necessitated by the following conditions:

X. Xxxxxxx or injury of the employee or a member of his immediate family (when the employee’s absence is required as a primary caregiver). For this section, immediate family shall be defined as spouse, child, mother, father, step-child, grandparent, grandchild and other persons to whom the employee stands in the place of parents (loco parentis). If the illness or injury is life threatening, the employee's brother, sister, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, mother-in-law and father-in-law shall be included in the definition of immediate family for this section. Life threatening illness or injury shall be defined as an injury that could reasonably cause death (e.g., cancer, serious heart condition, etc.);
B. Five (5) days sick leave may be granted to the employee for attendance at the funeral of a member of his immediate family. Funeral days must be consecutive work days and must include the day of the funeral. Where the day of the funeral is on a day the employee is otherwise not scheduled to work, the consecutive days will only be scheduled with the approval of the Employer. For this section, immediate family shall be defined as spouse, child, mother, father, brother, sister, step-child, mother-in-law, father-in-law, sister-in- law, brother-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandparent, grandchild, niece, nephew, those over whom the employee has legal guardianship or other person to whom the employee stands in the place of parents (in loco parentis);

Uses of Sick Leave. A. Sick leave shall be granted to an Employee upon approval of the Employer and for the following reasons:
(1) Illness or injury of the Employee or a member of his immediate family.
(2) If a member of the immediate family is afflicted with a contagious disease or requires the care and attendance of the employee, or when, through exposure to a contagious disease, the presence of the employee at his job would jeopardize the health of others.
(3) Pregnancy and/or childbirth and other conditions related thereto inclusive of leave for male employees for the care of the Employee's wife and family during the post-natal period.

1. The faculty member’s personal illness or exposure to a contagious disease which would endanger others.
2. The faculty member personal appointments with a health care provider.
3. The illness or injury of a member of the faculty member’s immediate family, at the discretion of the supervisor. Approval of requests for use of reasonable amounts of sick leave for caring for a member of the faculty member's immediate family shall not be unreasonably withheld. "Immediate family" means the spouse and the grandparents, parents, brothers, sisters, children, and grandchildren of both the faculty member and the spouse, and dependents living in the household.
Uses of Sick Leave. Sick leave may be used for absences due to disability by personal illness, pregnancy, recovery from childbirth, or injury, or exposure to contagious disease which could be communicated to other Instructional Employees or to students, medical or dental appointments, when such cannot be scheduled during non-working hours, and to illness, injury, or death in the Instructional Employee's immediate family that requires the care and/or attendance of the Instructional Employee.
Uses of Sick Leave. Standard reasons acceptable for sick leave are:
a. Personal illness (includes emergency dental and medical appointments).
b. Injury.
c. Exposure to contagious disease which could be communicated to others.
d. Absence due to illness, injury, or death in employee’s immediate family.
e. Absence due to disability caused or contributed to by pregnancy, miscarriage, abortion, childbirth and recovery therefrom.
Uses of Sick Leave a. Xxxx leave will be accrued before being taken. Faculty are eligible to participate in the Sick Leave Pool.
b. Sick leave will be authorized for the following:
i. The Faculty Member’s personal illness or injury, or exposure to a contagious disease which would endanger others.
ii. The Faculty Member’s personal appointments with a health care provider.
iii. The illness or injury of a member of the Faculty Member’s immediate family, in consultation with the Supervisor. Approval of requests for use of reasonable amounts of sick leave for caring for a member of the employee’s immediate family will not be unreasonably withheld. “Immediate family” means the spouse and the grandparents, parents, brothers, sisters, children, and grandchildren of both the Faculty Member and the spouse, and dependents living in the household.
