Reemployment in a Formerly Held Classification. An employee who has completed the probationary period in an entrance appointment who is laid off and is returned to a classification formerly held on a permanent basis shall receive a salary based upon the original appointment date in the classification to which the employee is returned. An employee who is returned to a classification not formerly held on a permanent basis shall receive a salary step in the salary schedule for the classification closest to, but not below, the prior salary amounts, provided that salary shall not exceed the maximum of the salary schedule.
