Advancement Through Salary Steps. Full time employees shall advance to the second step upon completion of six (6) months continuous service and to each successive step upon completion of the one (1) year required continuous service. Part-time regularly scheduled employees shall advance to the second step upon completion of 1040 continuous hours of service, and to each successive step upon completion of 2080 continuous hours of service.
Advancement Through Salary Steps a. Permanent employees shall advance to the second step upon completion of six months service and to each successive step upon completion of the one year required service.
b. Provisional employees shall be advanced to the step he/she would have achieved had he/she been permanent from the first day of employment in the class. Thereafter, the employee’s anniversary date shall be from the first day in the class regardless of status.
Advancement Through Salary Steps. 266. a. Except as specifically provided in Section III.B., permanent employees shall advance to each successive step upon completion of one (1) year of required service.

For the purposes of this section, hours worked includes any paid absences, such as vacation, paid sick leave, etc., and includes unpaid time off only for either approved worker’s compensation leave or military leave supported by military orders. The required hours do not include any time worked in addition to those hours normally scheduled, such as paid overtime. Unpaid hours, except those previously exempted will be deducted from the required hours to be met whenever a period of continuous unpaid time off exceeds two calendar months. In such circumstances, the entire period of leave will not be counted as time worked toward meeting the requirement.

Salary step changes for permanent and permanent exempt employees employed in the Office of the Mayor, City Attorney, District Attorney, Public Defender, Sheriff, Assessor or Treasurer shall continue to take place at the discretion of the respective appointing officer, not to exceed the maximum salary of the current schedule of compensation for the class. There shall be no reductions in salary steps. This provision shall apply only to employees in those departments where the current appointing officer is an elected official, and excluding former CAO units.

b. Entry at Other than the First Step. Covered employees who enter a classification at a rate of pay other than the first pay step shall advance one step upon completion of two thousand eighty (2080) hours worked (exclusive of overtime), including paid holidays and other paid time off and continue to advance to each successive step upon completion of an additional two thousand eighty (2080) hours worked (exclusive of overtime), including paid holidays and other paid time off, until the maximum salary rate is achieved.
Advancement Through Salary Steps. 5 Employees working (20) hours per week or more shall advance to the second 6 step upon completion of six months of service and to each successive step 7 through Step 5 upon completion of the one- (1) year required service.
