Research Sample and Data Sources. The prime criteria for selecting the four couples was that each of the couples have received some form of premarital counseling, that they understand and speak English, that one of the partners considers himself or herself as intercultural and that they reside in the State of Georgia. In order to conceal their identities, all couples were assigned numbers. The first couple is A111 a thirty three years old female who is second generation immigrant of South Asian descent and practices the Hindu faith. She was born and raised in Canada. He also had never previously been married. Both share a common profession in that they both are Radiologists. They met each other while doing their internship. They received counseling for about twenty sessions as part of the discernment process towards making a choice for marriage. The second couple is made up of C113, thirty six year old female who was born and raised in Georgia. She is a lawyer by profession. Her husband D114 is a thirty eight year old male, born and raised in Canada. He is a corporate marketing professional. He has had to adapt to American culture after marriage. Both are practicing Catholics and have been married to each other for ten years and this is their first marriage. They met each other through a community dating program. They received four sessions of premarital counseling. The third research participant couple is E115 a male of thirty two years. He is a Caucasian and was born and raised in Georgia. He describes his profession as English language teacher. F116 is a female of thirty years, born in Ghana and migrated to America at age eleven. Her profession is school psychologist. She is Catholic and he is a Protestant Christian. They met each other in College. Both of them have not been married before. They were in premarital counseling for about two years with more than forty sessions and they also took part in counseling sessions as part of discernment towards making a choice for continuing their relationship.
