Rest intervals. An employer shall grant to each of his employees a rest interval of not less than 10 minutes as near as practicable to- (a) the middle of each morning work period; and (b) the middle of each afternoon work period; during which such employee shall not be required or permitted to perform any work, and such interval shall be deemed to be part of the ordinary hours of work.

An employer shall grant to each of his or her employees a rest interval of not less than 10 minutes as near nearly as practicable to- (a) in the middle of each morning first work period; and (b) period and second work period of the middle of each afternoon work period; day, and during which such interval such employee shall not be required or permitted to perform any work, and such interval shall be deemed to be part of the ordinary hours of workwork of such employee: Provided that where an employer grants his or her employee a rest interval of not less than 20 minutes during each morning work period, the afternoon rest interval may be dispensed with. Except as provided for in sub-clause (3) and (4) all hours of work of an employee on any day shall be consecutive.
