Room Entry by VIU Sample Clauses
The 'Room Entry by VIU' clause grants Vancouver Island University (VIU) the right to enter a student's room under specified circumstances. Typically, this clause outlines the conditions under which university staff may access student accommodations, such as for maintenance, inspections, emergencies, or to ensure compliance with university policies. By clearly defining when and how room entry is permitted, the clause balances the institution's need to maintain safety and property with the student's right to privacy, thereby preventing misunderstandings and ensuring a safe living environment.
Room Entry by VIU. VIU will require access to your Room and common living areas from time to time for the purposes of this Agreement. Where possible, VIU will provide 24 hours’ notice to you. VIU is entitled, without prior notice and without you being present, to have authorized staff, security services, or emergency services enter the Room at reasonable times under the following conditions:
(a) to provide repair and maintenance services as detailed in section 6.4; (b) to ensure your safety and security and/or when there is reasonable cause to believe an emergency situation has arisen; (c) during the Winter Break to provide routine maintenance; and (d) when there is reasonable cause to believe the terms of this Agreement or applicable laws are being violated.

a. to provide repair, delivery, and maintenance services as detailed in section 6.4;
b. to ensure your safety and security and/or when there is reasonable cause to believe an emergency situation has arisen;
c. when there is reasonable cause to believe the terms of this Agreement or applicable laws are being violated.
d. If there is reason to believe something in your room poses a fire hazard or other danger to the community;
e. If there is an emergency that requires immediate attention;
f. If something in the room creates noise and interferes with others’ ability to sleep or study (i.e. stereo or alarm clock);
g. Other reasons of health, safety, or general community welfare; and
h. To investigate possible breaches of this Agreement. Residence buildings, common rooms and areas within the Residence (including exterior spaces) may be inspected from time to time during the year to ensure they are kept clean and safe. If residents fail to keep these areas clean, it may result in assessment for the cost of cleaning, the relocation of you or other residents, and/or denial of a future residence offer.
