S Definition of Department of Public Utilities. The employees of the Department of Public Utilities shall be charged with the maintenance and operation of the Wastewater Treatment Facility serving the City of Ionia and Townships of Easton, Berlin, Orange and Ionia. This service area is subject to change. Employees of the department shall acquire and maintain licenses required for their employment with the Wastewater Treatment Plant and it shall be the city's policy to assist whenever possible to upgrade these licenses. Duties of employees shall include, but not be limited to: taking samples at various locations throughout the service area; lab analysis and testing; maintenance of the physical plant; consultation with the DPW employees on line work; and maintenance of the pumping stations. The authority band shall begin and end, basically, at the property lines of the plant. In addition they shall be charged with the maintenance and operation of the water distnoution system at the water production points located in the City of Ionia. Employees duties shall include, but not be limited to: maintenance of pumps; meter reading; meter repair; flushing of the' system on regular basis; testing at various locations; Miss Digs during daytime hours for marking of utilities not associated with work to be performed by DPW; and general maintenance of buildings and structures in the system. A license is required and the city encourages employees to continue their education and acquire the necessary limited treatment and/or distribution licenses to provide for promotional possibilities (Class Cor D, 8-4, 8-3, etc). Every effort shall be made to have employees trained for both production and treatment plant sites.
