Special Leave (Emergencies & Special Occasions. (a) Each teacher may be granted leave of absence for reasons other than illness without deduction of salary up to a maximum of five (5) days in any one (1) school year. Such leave shall be granted at the discretion of the Superintendent or designate, in consultation with the Principal. Where the teacher, for any reason, teaches less than ten (10) months in the year, the special leave allotment shall be calculated at the rate of one-half (½) day per month. Special leave is non-cumulative from year to year. Except in the case of emergency, requests for leave shall be submitted ten (10) school days prior to the commencement of the leave. Such leave requests will be responded to within fifteen (15) school days. (b) A teacher who is the spouse of a member of the military shall be granted paid leave of up to three (3) days with deduction from the teacher’s sick leave account for the purpose of attending to matters associated with a military deployment (for a minimum of six [6] months) where the spouse is deployed to an active war zone.
