Time Off for Presenting Grievances. A bargaining unit member and Grievance Representative shall be allowed time off from regular duties with pay for attendance at scheduled meetings under the Grievance Procedure and for such other brief periods as may be reasonably necessary for consultation regarding a potential grievance when the meeting or consultation is held during the member's regularly scheduled duty hours. Consultation time off must be at such time as will not disrupt normal police duties and must have the approval of the respective immediate Supervisor and/or Captain. Such approval by the immediate Supervisor and/or Captain shall not be unreasonably withheld. The meetings between a grievant and the Grievance Representative shall be held at a University facility. Grievance Representatives shall be allowed adequate time, as approved by the immediate Supervisor and/or Captain, off the job with pay to conduct a proper investigation of each grievance. Such approval will not be unreasonably withheld. The withholding of such approval shall result in an automatic, equivalent extension of time limits within which a grievant must appeal the grievance or have it heard.
