Tuition Assistance. b) An employee must complete a Tuition Assistance Application and obtain A. Courses will be subject to the approval of the Chief Superintendent (on a form developed by him/her) for tuition reimbursement. For the purpose of Police reimbursement, courses must be job related and a grade of “B” or hisbetter will be necessary except in pass/her designee to take fail courses where a course or courses as a part grade of this program. Applications are to “pass” is necessary.
B. Application for such reimbursement must be submitted in writing to the Superintendent prior to the start of the course. At the end of the school year, the $10,000 will be distributed to all applicants with an understanding that each applicant is reimbursed for one credit.
C. If there are remaining monies, each applicant shall be reimbursed for an additional credit. In the event that the remaining monies are not sufficient to reimburse each applicant for an additional credit, the remaining monies shall be divided equally among all applicants.
D. If there are remaining monies, after each applicant has been reimbursed for two (2) credits, the process shall continue until all applicants are reimbursed or the $10,000 limit is exhausted.
E. Criteria for courses for which reimbursement will be paid:
1. A job-related level course, either in a planned program or an individual course.
2. For the purpose of reimbursement a grade of "B" or better will be necessary except in pass/fail courses where a grade of "pass" is necessary.
3. Other programs that advance the credentials and/or qualifications of a teacher may be eligible for reimbursement at the discretion of the Superintendent and the Association President(s). The decision of the Superintendent and the Association President(s) is not subject to the grievance procedure. In the event the parties are unable to agree upon reimbursement eligibility, the decision regarding such eligibility will be made by a panel composed of two members of the Columbia Board of Education, the Superintendent and three members of the Columbia Teachers Association. The decision of the panel is not subject to the grievance procedure.
F. After being named Columbia’s “Teacher of the Year” the teacher shall receive a one-time, lump sum payment in the amount indicated in the attached STIPENDS FOR CO-CURRICULAR AND EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES-SECTION B. Payment shall be made during the established application period. Tuition will only be approved for courses within a degree-granting or certificate- granting program at Oakland University, teacher’s “reign” as defined in the undergraduate or graduate catalog or for credit bearing courses at the University that are pre-requisites for entry into such program. OUWB School of Medicine, EMBA, and CRNA courses are excluded.
c) Tuition for approved course(s) will be credited to the employee’s student account. Each member “Teacher of the bargaining unit who has enrolled in an “approvedYear” course(s) must earn a minimum 3.0 grade point average for each graduate course(s) and a 2.0 grade point average for each undergraduate course(s). If the employee does not successfully complete the course(s) with the appropriate grade point or withdraws from the course(s), the employee must repay OU for the tuition. The employee’s student account will be debited the appropriate amountno later than October 1.

Tuition Assistance. Position 1. The Agency will establish a Tuition Assistance Program for employees covered by this Agreement subject to the following conditions:
(a) Approval for tuition assistance will be made in accordance with procedures established by the Agency.
(b) Approval will be granted only for courses which are specifically related to the job currently being performed (e.g. a Class 1A Mechanic position) or for courses which provide the employee with training for a higher level job within this Bargaining Unit. A degree that is job related, courses or tuition assistance degrees which benefit the Agency.
(c) Employees who achieve satisfactory academic evaluation (for example, a grade of A, B or C) will be reimbursed eighty-five percent (85%) tuition, registration and laboratory fees. Such reimbursement will be for a maximum of four (4) courses per Agency Fiscal Year in accordance with the Agency’s Tuition Reimbursement Policy. A course shall be defined as the equivalent of a standard college course of 3 to 5 semester hours.
(d) Courses must be taken at Oakland University by federal or state approved technical or trade schools or accredited colleges or universities.
(e) Reimbursement will not be made for items such as textbooks, course related materials, parking and student incidentals.
(f) Course attendance must be on non-working hours.
2. When the Agency determines that a Bargaining Unit member which are approved by course is necessary to improve knowledge or skills necessary for the Chief satisfactory performance of Police or the employee’s current job duties, the Agency will reimburse the employee for 100% of tuition, enrollment and registration fees, laboratory fees, textbooks, required course related materials and student parking. If said course is conducted during working hours, the employee shall be excused from work during those course hours and his/her designee prior to enrollment shall qualify for tuition reimbursement as provided below:
a) The University pay will cover 100 percent (100%) of tuition costs at Oakland University. Cost of books, fees, travel and other expenses are not includedremain whole.
b) An employee must complete a Tuition Assistance Application and obtain 3. When in the approval opinion of the Chief of Police Agency it is desirable to send a maintenance employee to a trade school or his/her designee to take a course or courses as a part of this program. Applications are to be submitted during the established application period. Tuition will only be approved for courses within a degree-granting or certificate- granting program at Oakland University, as defined in the undergraduate or graduate catalog or for credit bearing courses at the University that are pre-requisites for entry into such program. OUWB School of Medicine, EMBA, and CRNA courses are excluded.
c) Tuition for approved course(s) will be credited to the employee’s student account. Each member of the bargaining unit who has enrolled in an “approved” course(s) must earn a minimum 3.0 grade point average for each graduate course(s) and a 2.0 grade point average for each undergraduate course(s). If the employee does not successfully complete the course(s) with the appropriate grade point or withdraws from the course(s)other technical class, the employee must repay OU for the Agency will assume all expenses involved, such as tuition.
