Union Dues Checkoff. A. Union Dues Checkoff (1) The Engineer agrees to honor the Agreement between the Union and its members, as stated on its “Authorization for Payroll Deductions of Union Dues” and deduct such dues from the wages of employees sixty (60) calendar days following beginning of employment. (2) Union dues deductions shall be made the first pay period of each month. All dues deductions shall be deposited via electronic Automatic Clearing House (ACH) transfer payment into the commercial bank account of Ohio Council 8, AFSCME, AFL-CIO no later than fifteen (15) calendar days following the end of the pay period in which the deduction is made. The Union shall provide the Employer with authorization to make deposits into the financial institution utilized by the Union along with the routing number and account umber of the Union’s account. It is the Union’s responsibility to notify the Employer in writing of any change to the Union’s account information. “Employees who are members of the Union may revoke their Union membership at any time by sending written notice to the Union of their desire to drop their Union membership. Revocation of membership does not revoke Union dues authorization, which may only be revoked as set forth below”. “Any voluntary dues checkoff authorization shall be irrevocable, regardless of whether an employee has revoked Union membership, for a period of one year from the date of the execution of the dues checkoff authorization and for year to year thereafter, unless the employee gives the Employer and the Union written notice of revocation not less than ten (10) calendar days and not more than twenty-five (25) calendar days before the end of any yearly period. Copies of employees’ dues checkoff authorization cards are available from the Union upon request. (3) The Union shall notify the County Auditor's office in writing of any increase in the current dues being deducted. (4) The Engineer's obligation to deduct dues shall terminate upon an employee's termination of employment or transfer to a job classification outside the bargaining unit. (5) The County Auditor shall provide the Union with an alphabetical list for employees for whom deductions were made; name, address and social security number shall also be included on the list. The Auditor will update current list only when changes are necessary. (6) The Union shall indemnify and save the Engineer harmless against any and all claims, demands, suits or other forms of liability that may arise out of complying with any of the provisions of this Article.

Such amount shall be deducted from the Employee's earnings in accordance with the certified schedules to be furnished by the Guild unless such authorization is revoked in writing by the Employee. Dues schedule may be amended by the Guild at any time. 2. Such sums shall be paid to the Treasurer of the Guild not later than ten (210) Union days after the deductions are made. The Guild agrees that it shall indemnify the Employer for any mistaken or inaccurate deductions attributable to inaccurate or mistaken information supplied by the Guild to the Employer. 3. The dues deductions deduction assignment shall be made upon the following form: To: Agence France-Presse I hereby assign the Washington-Baltimore Newspaper Guild, and authorize the Employer to deduct monthly from any salary earned by me as an Employee, an amount equal to all my Guild dues, as certified by the Treasurer of the Washington-Baltimore Newspaper Guild starting in the first pay period week of each monththe month following the date of this assignment. All dues deductions shall be deposited via electronic Automatic Clearing House (ACH) transfer payment into I further authorize and request the commercial bank account of Ohio Council 8, AFSCME, AFLEmployer to remit the amount deducted to the Washington-CIO Baltimore Newspaper Guild no later than fifteen ten (1510) calendar days following the end of the pay period in which after the deduction is made. I further agree and direct that this assignment and authorization shall be continued automatically and shall be irrevocable for successive periods of one year each or for the dues checkoff authorization and for year to year thereafter, unless the employee gives period of each succeeding applicable contract between the Employer and the Union Guild, whichever period shall be shorter, unless written notice of its revocation is given by me to the Employer and to the Guild by registered mail not more than 30 days and not less than ten (10) 15 days prior to the expiration of each one- year period or of each applicable contract between the Employer and the Guild, whichever occurs sooner. Such notice of revocation shall become effective for the calendar days month following the calendar month in which the Employer receives it. This assignment and not more than twenty-five (25) calendar days before the end of any yearly periodauthorization supersedes all previous assignments and authorizations previously given by me in relation to my Guild dues. All dues deductions shall be deposited via electronic Automatic Clearing House (ACH) transfer payment into the commercial bank account Union by the 15th day of Ohio Council 8, AFSCME, AFL-CIO no later than fifteen (15) calendar days the month following the end month for which the dues were deducted, accompanied by a list of names of employees from whose wages deductions have been made. At the same time, the Employer shall also provide the Union Vice President or designate with a list of any staff changes occurring within the bargaining unit during the previous month, including new hires, promotions, recalls, Project Workers who have become part of the Bargaining Unit, employees who have completed their probationary period, employment terminations, layoffs, resignations, retirements and leaves of absence (paid or unpaid) of more than thirty (30) days duration. Upon request, the Employer will provide the Union with a Seniority List four (4) times (January, April, July and October) each calendar year. The Seniority List shall include or be accompanied by the following information: list of names, addresses, home phone numbers, job title and work location. Personal email addresses and cell phone numbers shall also be provided where available. 4.02 The Union will indemnify and save the Employer harmless from any and all claims which may be made against it by an Employee or Employees for amounts deducted from pay period as provided by this Article. 4.03 The Union shall advise the Employer in which writing three (3) months in advance of the deduction is madeamount of Union dues to be deducted from every Employee in the bargaining unit and also of any changes to the said amount. The Union shall provide the Employer with authorization to make deposits into the financial institution utilized by the Union along with the routing number and account umber of the Union’s account. It is the Union’s responsibility to notify advise the Employer in writing of any change to the Union’s account information. “Employees who are members name and address of the Secretary-Treasurer and the National Secretary-Treasurer of the Union may revoke and of any changes thereto. 4.04 The Employer agrees to provide a copy of this Agreement to all new Employees within one (1) month of the commencement of their employment. The cost of printing the necessary copies of this Collective Agreement shall be borne by the Union. 4.05 At the time that Income Tax (T4) slips are made available to each Employee, the Employer shall include on the T4 slip for each Employee the amount of Union membership at any time dues paid by sending written notice that Employee in the previous year. 4.06 The Employer agrees to acquaint new Employees with the fact that a Union agreement is in effect. 4.07 The Local Union Representatives shall be notified of all new staff by Human Resources. A Local Union representative will be given the opportunity to meet each newly-hired bargaining unit employee once during the employee's first two weeks of employment, for the purpose of advising such employee of the existence of the Union and of their desire his/her rights and obligations under the terms of this Agreement. Such meeting will take place on the Employer's premises during the employee’s normal working hours at a time and location mutually agreed to drop their Union membership. Revocation of membership does not revoke Union dues authorization, which may only be revoked as set forth below”. “Any voluntary dues checkoff authorization shall be irrevocable, regardless of whether an employee has revoked Union membership, for a period of one year from the date of the execution of the dues checkoff authorization and for year to year thereafter, unless the employee gives by the Employer and the Union, and shall not exceed thirty (30) minutes in duration. It is understood that neither the Local Union written notice Representative nor the newly-hired bargaining unit employee shall suffer any loss of revocation not less than ten (10) calendar days and not more than twenty-five (25) calendar days before the end of any yearly period. Copies of employees’ dues checkoff authorization cards are available from the Union upon request. (3) The Union shall notify the County Auditor's office in writing of any increase in the current dues being deducted. (4) The Engineer's obligation to deduct dues shall terminate upon an employee's termination of employment or transfer to pay as a job classification outside the bargaining unit.
