Common use of Union Functions - Leave of Absence Clause in Contracts

Union Functions - Leave of Absence. Leave of absence without pay, may, subject to operational requirements, be granted to employees for the purposes of attending union functions such as conferences, conventions, schools, seminars, negotiations, provided always that the Union makes written application for the leave of absence at least twenty-one (21) calendar days prior to said functions. Such leaves of absence shall be restricted to no more than three (3) employees at one time and not more than one per client site. Where the Union requests leave of absence for more than three (3) employees at one time such leave of absence shall be granted provided there are no additional costs of overtime or scheduling premiums. The Company agrees to allow a maximum of two (2) employees (maximum of one (1) per site) time off without pay for the purpose of attending negotiations for the renewal of the Collective Bargaining Agreement provided that the Union notified the Company of the names of the employees and the dates and time off required sufficiently far in advance so as not to cause the Company to incur additional costs of overtime or scheduling premiums. The Company will pay the wages, and benefits of all employees who qualify under this article after receiving a written request from the Union. The Company will invoice the UFCW for all costs associated to wages, benefits, overheads and administration costs. The Union shall promptly reimburse the Company for the payments made. In the event of failure of the Union to so reimburse the Company, all such payments to the employees shall immediately cease.
