Common use of UNION MEMBERSHIP AND CHECK-OFF OF UNION DUES Clause in Contracts

UNION MEMBERSHIP AND CHECK-OFF OF UNION DUES. Section 1: Union Membership (a) All employees who are now members of the Union and those employees who subsequently become members of the Union shall remain members of the Union as a condition of employment, provided that no employee shall be deprived of employment by reason of loss of membership in the Union for reasons other than failure to pay regular Union dues that all other members of the Union are required to pay to the Union, nor shall any employee be deprived of employment by reason of the refusal of the Union to admit such employee to membership. All employees covered by the Union Certificate of Bargaining Authority shall pay to the Union an amount equal to the Union's dues, such payment to be made by payroll deduction. This deduction shall become effective on the first day of the pay period coincident with or next following the date of appointment, but the deduction shall be made only if the employee is still in the employ of the Employer on the final day of the first pay period. Deductions shall be made in respect of all subsequent pay periods provided an employee works any part of the pay period. These arrangements shall remain in effect for so long as this Union remains the recognized bargaining authority. (b) The Employer agrees to acquaint all new employees covered by this Collective Agreement with the fact that a Collective Agreement between the Union and the Employer is in effect and with the conditions of employment set out herein dealing with the Definitions of Employees, Union Membership requirement and check-off of Union dues.
