Common use of Use of Sick Leave for Family Members Clause in Contracts

Use of Sick Leave for Family Members. A unit member who qualifies for sick leave under this section of the contract is entitled to use his/her available sick leave, in an amount not less than the sick leave that would be accrued during six months at the employee’s current rate of entitlement, to attend to an illness of a child, parent, spouse, or domestic partner of the unit member. All conditions and restrictions placed by the employer on the use of sick leave shall apply. For purposes of this section, “child,” “parent,” and “sick leave” shall be defined pursuant to section 233 of the California Labor Code. “Domestic partner” shall be defined pursuant to section 297 of the California Family Code. Nothing in this section shall be interpreted to grant any rights inconsistent with the Labor Code.
