Hours of Duty (a) The prescribed hours of duty may be worked with flexible commencement and finishing times in accordance with the provisions of this clause. (b) For the purpose of leave, public holidays and days in lieu of the repealed Public Service Holidays, a day shall be credited as 7.5 hours.
TEACHING HOURS AND TEACHING LOAD Section 1 Work Day For the applicable agreement period, the normal work day will be seven and one-quarter (7 ¼) hours including arrival time fifteen (15) minutes before and departure time (15) minutes after the students’ school day. The normal work day will include uninterrupted prep time. The Building Principal, as authorized by the Superintendent, upon request of a teacher or group of teachers, may waive the requirement to remain fifteen (15) minutes after the school day for a specific day or days. It is recognized; however, that the proper performance of their duties may, on occasion, require these persons to work longer than the normal work day, i.e. for conferences, faculty meetings, department meetings, etc. Therefore, “mandatory meetings will occur two times per month and be no longer than 90 minutes in length, inclusive of the additional 15 minutes beyond the scheduled student school day. A schedule of the meetings will be distributed by June 30th of the previous school year, but may be changed at the discretion of the Principal with 48 hours’ notice.” Teachers will also remain at school after the fifteen (15) minutes described above, during one (1) day each calendar week for such periods of time as is necessary to provide students extra help, and/or to meet with parents or guardians, concerning the progress of their children or wards. No teacher shall be required to work more than a normal seven and one- quarter (7 ¼) hour day, including fifteen (15) minutes before and (15) minutes after the students’ school day, which will include uninterrupted prep time; this provision does not apply to other contractually agreed upon time and meetings. Should state law require a longer instructional day, or more days, the teachers shall work the added time and the parties shall immediately commence impact bargaining on the issue. This article does not purport to cover the arrival and departure time of teachers involved in special assignments. Section 2 Other Personnel Personnel other than classroom teachers will work at their assigned tasks for the length of the regular teachers' work day. The exact daily schedule will be worked out on an individual basis between the Administration and the employee with notification to the Association. Instructional Coaches are required to work an additional five (5) days at their per diem rate, beyond the work year for a total of 189 days. These days will be determined prior to the start of the new school year and at the discretion of the Superintendent and the Chief Academic Officer.
HOURS OF EMPLOYMENT 6.1 The employee shall be on duty at the school at least thirty (30) minutes prior to the beginning of the first student period. If assigned a pre-period, the employee must arrive 30 minutes prior to the pre-period. 6.2 Kindergarten teachers shall have the same school hours as other teachers in their school. 6.3 Middle school teachers shall have one (1) unassigned instructional period per day set aside for planning. This period shall be equivalent to one normal class period. 6.4 Elementary Art, Music, and PE teachers shall be provided 45 minutes a week of preparation time. 6.5 Every employee shall be entitled to one duty-free lunch period per day of not less than thirty (30) consecutive minutes. Each employee shall also be allowed two (2) relief periods (recesses) each day even when serving on yard duty. A preparation period is considered a relief period. 6.6 The unit member shall attend one faculty meeting each week if scheduled by the principal, and the employee shall be provided with an agenda prior to such meetings. Unit members may be permitted to place items on the agenda. One (1) day per week, unit members shall be required to attend until 4:45 p.m. if a meeting is called. These meetings may include minimum day in-service, faculty meetings and other meetings as prescribed by the administrator in charge. On the Wednesday preceding issuance of report cards/progress reports, unit members will be released from weekly faculty meetings to work on the issuance of such cards/reports. Unit members shall not be released from weekly faculty meetings on any week during which a non-instructional, teacher work day is scheduled. 6.7 Planning and preparation time shall be used for planning, preparation, and conferencing with parents, pupils and other teachers or administrators. 6.8 Employees shall participate in student extra-curricular activities, on a voluntary basis, such as student dances, music performances, athletic events, etc. If there are no volunteers, the principal will appoint staff members. In no event shall an employee be required to participate in more than two (2) extra-curricular assignments per year. It shall be the responsibility of the principal to allocate assignments in an equitable manner. 6.9 Employees shall participate in duties as assigned by the principal such as "Back to School Night" and "Open House” and “Kindergarten Orientation.” The District shall make every effort to schedule Open House on a minimum day so unit members will have a greater opportunity to prepare information and materials for meeting parents. The employee has the obligation to participate in meetings pertinent to but not limited to, parent-teacher conferences, principal–teacher conferences, 504 meetings, IEP meetings, and curriculum work. 6.10 During the hours of employment, employees shall perform those duties normally associated with certificated employees as assigned by the principal. To the extent possible, each site will set aside one or more days per month for IEP meetings. Certificated staff will be released from class during contract time to attend such meetings. Every effort will be made to schedule IEP meetings and 504 meetings during the school day. However, if parent, teacher, or service provider scheduling requires an after school meeting, a seven (7) calendar day advance notice will be given to all participants in the absence of exigent circumstances. 6.11 Certificated staff will be released from class during contract time to attend such meetings. There shall be a minimum day one (1) day per week to allow time after students are dismissed for working on such topics as planning, professional growth, curriculum planning and scheduling. At the beginning of each school year, each school site will designate one Wednesday in a month where there are at least four (4) Wednesdays for teacher determined use that will consist of collaboration with one or more colleagues. An agenda and minutes will be developed and provided to the school administrator. 6.12 Each school teacher grades TK-8 shall have the equivalent of ten (10) minimum days designated as parent conference days. 6.13 Hours of employment for part-time employees shall be assigned by the Human Resources Director after consultation with the employee and the principal and duties shall be pro- rated. 6.14 As long as the District funds classified positions, known as P.E. Specialists, it shall provide substitutes for P.E. Specialists when absent in order for classroom teachers to be provided preparation time. 6.15 If a TK-8th grade substitute is unavailable: 6.15.1 Another teacher may voluntarily cover the class during their preparation time and be paid their pro-rated per diem rate of pay. 6.15.2 A part-time or job share teacher may substitute during non-contract time and be paid their pro-rated per diem rate of pay. If a job share teacher substitutes for their partner teacher, then the pay is per diem (pro rated if not a full day). 6.15.3 If a teacher takes another teacher’s students in addition to their own class, the teacher will receive the hourly rate of pay pursuant to Article 3.16 per hour for the number of hours the class is with them. This applies when taking at least 7 of the students in a teacher’s class.
Workday and Workweek The regular workweek of a full-time employee in the bargaining unit shall be forty (40) hours and shall consist of five (5) consecutive days of eight (8) hours per day.
Holidays Worked When an employee works on a calendar holiday, he/she shall receive payment of the holiday at the regular rate and in addition, at the discretion of the Employer, (1) be paid at the rate of time and one half for hours actually worked on the holiday or (2) be given compensatory time off equal to one and one half the number of hours actually worked.
Workweek A regularly re-occurring period of one hundred and sixty-eight (168) hours consisting of seven (7) consecutive twenty-four (24) hour periods. Workweeks will normally begin at 12:00 a.m. on Sunday and end at 12:00 midnight the following Saturday or as otherwise designated by the appointing authority. If there is a change in their workweek, employees will be given written notification by the appointing authority or their designee.
TEACHING HOURS 1. A grade PPI-12 teacher's workday shall consist of not more than seven (7) hours and ten (10) minutes of formal responsibility. Hall duty may be included in the teacher's workday. Every effort will be made mutually by the Administration and the Association to deal with these duties in a most positive manner. The student day may be increased if necessary to meet the State time requirements for instructional hours. Within said time of formal responsibility, a teacher shall be entitled to the following: (a) A duty free lunch period no less than twenty-five (25) minutes to a maximum of thirty-five (35) minutes. (b) For a grade ECSE-5 grade teacher: a minimum of 250 minutes per week of time for preparation. Each preparation period to consist of a minimum of twenty-five (25) duty-free minutes. For a grade 6-12 teacher: a minimum of one preparation per day that shall be equivalent to a normal teaching period or an average of five normal teaching periods per week. (c) Cafeteria duty may be included in the teacher's workday. Every effort will be made to obtain volunteers for this duty, which will be in lieu of a class period. If no volunteer is available who can be scheduled, the administration may assign a teacher to such duties. No teacher may be involuntarily assigned these duties for more than one consecutive year. Every effort will be made mutually by the Administration and the Association to deal with these duties in a most positive manner. (d) Attendance at 6th grade camp shall be voluntary. 2. Before and/or after school, a grade ECSE-12 teacher shall be attending to his/her teaching duties in his/her building for up to thirty (30) minutes but not to exceed the workday of seven (7) hours and ten (10) minutes. At the beginning of each year, the administration at each level shall determine what portion of the above times will be used before and after school. Teacher input will be encouraged. It is expressly understood that an individual teacher's day may be adjusted to facilitate the administration of the individual building. Early leave may be granted at the discretion of the Administration. 3. The daily preparation period will first be used for such things as thorough preparations, conferences with parents, teachers, and administrators, I.E.P.T.'s, and special assistance to students. 4. Activities involving teachers beyond the scope of the formal teaching day shall be determined cooperatively between a faculty selected committee and the administration at that level. Teachers shall be given forty-eight (48) hour notice of such activities and shall be encouraged and expected by the Association to attend. Special teachers shall be encouraged to attend as their time and schedules allow. 5. In the event that it becomes necessary to determine a new building schedule, a committee will be formed, comprised of an equal number of administrators and teachers to examine alternative scheduling. A recommendation on the study will be presented to the superintendent. No recommendation will be made that would jeopardize accreditation. 6. A teacher’s building assignment shall be determined by where he/she is assigned for over half of his/her schedule. A teacher who has a split building assignment will have their workday schedule determined by the building administrators. A teacher who has a split building assignment will have a minimum of 30 minutes for travel. If the travel time encumbers the teacher’s preparation period or duty free lunch, or extends the teacher’s day beyond the contractual limits, then the teacher shall be paid for a minimum of thirty (30) minutes at the teacher’s per diem rate (unless this time is recouped through other minutes during the day).
Flexible Working Hours The Employer will, where operational requirements and efficiency of the service permit, authorize experiments with flexible working hours if the Employer is satisfied that an adequate number of Employees have requested and wish to participate in such an experiment.
Paid Holidays – Long Weekends (a) When an employee is scheduled to work a weekend where a paid holiday falls on the Monday or the Friday, the Employer shall endeavour to also schedule the employee to work the paid holiday. (b) When the employee is scheduled off on a weekend where a paid holiday falls on the Monday or the Friday, the Employer shall endeavour to schedule the employee off the paid holiday. (c) In the event of a scheduling conflict, 12.07 (a) will be the deciding provision.
Hour Shifts When the Employer deems it necessary to implement a twelve (12) hour work day, affected employees shall be notified pursuant to Clause 14.05. The following Clauses shall be replaced or added to the Collective Agreement where appropriate.
