Medical Care Expense definition

Medical Care Expense means an expense incurred by a Participant, or by the Spouse or Dependent of such Participant, for medical care as defined in Code § 213 (including, for example, amounts for certain hospital bills, doctor bills and prescription drugs), other than expenses that are excluded but only to the extent that the Participant or other person incurring the expense is not reimbursed for the expense (nor is the expense reimbursable) through the Health Insurance Plan, other insurance, or any other accident or health plan.
Medical Care Expense means any expense which meets the criteria as a deductible health care expense under Section 213 of the Code, specifically including dental, vision and hearing care expenses.
Medical Care Expense means expenses incurred by a participant, spouse or dependent for medical care to the extent that the participant or other person incurring the expense is not reimbursed for the expense through any other accident or health plan, as defined in United States Code Section 213(d). Expenses for premiums or contributions made to any other health or accident plan (whether or not maintained by the employer) and long-term care expenses are not considered Medical Care Expenses for the purposes of this Plan.

Examples of Medical Care Expense in a sentence

  • If only a portion of a Medical Care Expense has been reimbursed elsewhere (e.g., because the Medical Insurance Plan imposes co-payment or deductible limitations), then the Health FSA can reimburse the remaining portion of such Expense if it otherwise meets the requirements of this Article.

  • A Medical Care Expense is incurred at the time the medical care or service giving rise to the expense is furnished and not when the Participant is formally billed for, is charged for, or pays for the medical care.

  • In addition, any Health FSA Account benefit payments that are unclaimed (e.g., uncashed benefit checks) by the close of the Plan Year following the Period of Coverage in which the Medical Care Expense was incurred shall be forfeited and applied as described above.

  • For purposes of the General-Purpose Health FSA Coverage Option, "Medical Care Expense" means expenses incurred by you, your Spouse, or your Dependents for "medical care" as defined in Code § 213(d), and shall include amounts paid for medicines or drugs only if (1) the medicine or drug requires a prescription, (2) is available without a prescription (an over-the-counter medicine or drug) and the individual obtains a prescription, or (3) is insulin, as described in Code section 106(f).

  • If only a portion of a Medical Care Expense has been reimbursed elsewhere (e.g., because health coverage imposes co-payment or deductible limitations), then the Health FSA Component can reimburse the remaining portion of such Medical Care Expense if it otherwise meets the requirements of this Article VII.


More Definitions of Medical Care Expense

Medical Care Expense means any health-related expenditure which meets the criteria as a deductible medical expense under Section 213 of the Internal Revenue Code (disregarding the 7.5% exclusion) with the specific exception of premiums or contributions made to any other health or accident plan (whether or not maintained by the employer), and long-term care expenses.
Medical Care Expense means any expense incurred by a Participant or dependent of the Participant that was paid for as a medical service expense eligible under Internal Revenue Code section 213(d). Expenses that result in a double deduction for tax purposes are not eligible. For example:
Medical Care Expense means expenses incurred by you, your Spouse, your Dependents or any of your children (until the end of the calendar year in which the child attains age 26) for “medical care” as defined in Code § 213. Generally, this means an item for which you could have claimed a Medical Care Expense deduction on an itemized federal income tax return (without regard to any threshold limitation or time of payment) for which you have not otherwise been reimbursed or could be reimbursed from insurance or from some other source.
Medical Care Expense means expenses incurred by you, your Spouse, or your Dependents for “medical care” as defined in Code §213(d). However, expenses for medicines or drugs other than insulin will not qualify as Medical Care Expenses unless the medicine or drug has been prescribed. Thus, OTC medicines or drugs such as aspirin, antihistamines, and cough syrup must be prescribed in order to qualify as Medical Care Expenses; to be reimbursed for an OTC medicine or drug, you must provide documentation that the item was prescribed. In addition, as described above, only reasonable quantities of OTC drugs will be reimbursed from your Health FSA account in a single calendar month. The following list shows certain expenses that are not reimbursable, even if they meet the definition of medical care under Code §213(d) and may otherwise be reimbursable under IRS rules governing Health FSAs.
