Texas Health Steps definition
Texas Health Steps is the name adopted by the State of Texas for the federally mandated Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment (EPSDT) program. It includes the State’s Comprehensive Care Program extension to EPSDT, which adds benefits to the federal EPSDT requirements contained in 42 U.S.C. §1396d(r), and defined and codified at 42 C.F.R. §§440.40 and 441.56-62. HHSC’s rules are contained in 25 T.A.C., Chapter 33 (relating to Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment).
Texas Health Steps. A children's program under Medicaid which provides medical and dental preventive care and treatment to Medicaid-enrolled children from birth to 21 years of age. Tuition and Fee Waiver: A waiver of tuition and fees at state supported colleges, universities and vocational schools for eligible children who are in DFPS conservatorship: On or after their 18th birthday; or The day they receive their high school diploma or its equivalent; or At age 14 or older are eligible for adoption. Texas Health Steps or “THSteps” means federally mandated Medicaid Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic, and Treatment (EPSDT) services. “THSteps” is a program administered by HHSC with support from Department of State Health Services (DSHS) regional provider relations staff. THSteps benefits and services are offered to all Medicaid recipients from birth through 20 years of age.
