A magnification of the heating curve between 80°C and 100°C is plotted to determine the Tg with its first derivative The thermal transitions of the PPS resin are measured by DSC. The cold crystallisation and melting points are measured as 122.5 ± 0.3°C and 281.6 ± 0.4°C respectively. A typical heating and cooling curve is presented in Figure 2.3. A magnification of the heating curve is included in Figure 2.3 for better identification of the Tg which is measured by computing the maximum of the first derivative of the heat flow. The Tg is determined to be 89.1 ± 0.2°C. The crystallisation temperature (Tc)is also measured on the cooling curve as 231.1 ± 0.4°C. These temperatures are consistent with values reported in the literature [18,122] although a wide range of temperatures exists for Tc as it is dependent on a number of parameters including the cooling rate [123].
