Common use of Adoptive Parent Leave Clause in Contracts

Adoptive Parent Leave. ‌ 27:01 An employee shall be granted one (1) day’s leave with pay to attend to needs directly related to the adoption of their child. At the employee’s option such leave shall be granted on the day of, or the day following the adoption. (a) Where an employee has become an adoptive parent and has applied for and qualified for parental leave, the employee shall be permitted to apply up to five (5) days of their accumulated sick leave against the Employment Insurance waiting period. (b) Should the employee not return to work following the parenting leave for a period of employment sufficient to allow for re-accumulation of the number of sick days granted under subsection (a), the employee shall compensate the Employer for the balance of the outstanding days at the time of termination. Approved sick leave with pay granted during the period of return shall be counted as days worked.
