Appraisal system. General In order to be able to link the amount of the periodic increases in the salary system for the job category of Journalists working for Free Local Newspapers to a performance appraisal of the journalists involved, the company will have to use an objective, transparent, verifiable and justified appraisal system that serves as the basis for assessing individual journalists. To this end, a number of organisational and other pre-conditions has been established that the company shall comply with in order to link the awarding of a periodic increase –and the amount thereof –within the salary system of the job category of Journalists working for Free Local Newspapers to a performance appraisal of individual journalists. Only publishing companies that observe these conditions and pre- conditions shall be entitled to link the awarding of the annual periodic increase –and the amount thereof –to the appraisal of the individual journalist. The appraisal system can be found in Annex 2 to this chapter.

Appraisal system. Your work and your personal development are reviewed annually. To this end, with the approval of the employee representatives or the trade unions, each employer maintains an appraisal system that should comply with the following criteria: – you and your appraiser must have insight into the job content based on a job description; – the subject of the appraisal can be: • the manner in which you perform your job (qualitative requirements and expectations, the ‘how’); • the result of job performance (quantitative goals, the ‘what’); – at the beginning of each appraisal period you and your appraiser will make specific agreements; – these agreements are related to the main tasks of the job, and to organisational and/or departmental plans; – the agreements must be measurable and you must be able to influence them; – the appraisal must be based on regular personal observation by your appraiser; – you will receive the appraisal report in writing after which the appraiser will discuss the contents with you. You will be given the opportunity to raise objections concerning the appraisal with the appraiser and his immediate supervisor. If your objection is rejected you can appeal in conformity with the internal procedure. You can enlist assistance in this, for example from the trade union of which you are a member.

In order to avoid deception, an appraisal system has been devised, by means of which users may appraise each other after a contract has been completed. The appraisals are not checked by Xxxxx & Xxxxxx and can by their nature be unfounded or misleading. The user is obliged to give true and objective details in appraisals he or she makes, and to act in accordance with the law. It is prohibited to make unfounded appraisals, evaluations about oneself, or to incite third parties to do so. In the event of non-compliance, Xxxxx & Xxxxxx may bar right of access to the user at any time or remove appraisals made by the user.
