Board Appraisals. ‌ 17.1 The Chair of TNI will conduct an annual appraisal in respect of each Board member which will also inform the annual programme of Board training/ development. The Chair will engage with the Chief Executive/lead official as appropriate on improvements identified through the appraisal process and the annual training/development programme. 17.2 The Chair’s annual appraisal will be completed by the Grade 3 of the Economic Strategy Group within the Department. The appraisal will take account of the Key Characteristics of a good chairperson (particularly for the Chair to have well developed interpersonal skills) set out in the NIAO Good Practice Guide on Board Effectiveness which is available on the NIAO website. There will be close engagement between the Chair and the lead official on improvements identified through the appraisal process.
