Common use of Bumping Clause in Contracts

Bumping. An employee designated to be laid off may bump into a class at the same salary level within the same department or into the next lower classification within the same department in which such employee has previously held status with the County. An employee who is bumped shall be laid off in the same manner as an employee whose position is abolished. An employee may refuse an offer of transfer or bumping for reasons of hardship, without affecting rights, within five (5) days of notification.
