Calculating and Establishing Unit Allocations for Continuing Sessional Lecturers. ‌ (a) Unit and University Allocations for Continuing Sessionals shall be calculated biennially. In calculating the average number of units, the average will be rounded to the lower 1.5 unit increment. In calculating the average number of units, when the number of units taught in the most recent of the four (4) assignment years referred to in Article 24.01 (d) is higher than the average, the average will be rounded to the nearest 1.5 units. If the average number of units is equidistant between two 1.5 unit increments the average will be rounded up if the number of units taught in the most recent of the four (4) assignment years referred to in Article 24.01 (d) is higher than the average. (b) When a Continuing Sessional Lecturer has taught in more than one (1) academic unit, there will be a separate calculation for each academic unit and the Continuing Sessional Lecturer will have recall rights as specified for each unit. (c) Once the unit allocation and university allocation is calculated and established, these allocations will remain fixed until the next recalculation which will be done by February 15 or a date established by mutual agreement for the upcoming assignment year or except as reduced in accordance with the recall provisions of Article 24.04.

In calculating the average of number of units, when the average number of units taught falls between 1.5 unit increments, the allocation will be rounded as follows: (i) If the number of units taught in the most recent of the four (4) assignment years referred to in Article 13.01 (d) is higher than the average, the allocation will be rounded to the nearest 1.5 units. (ii) If the average is equidistant between two (2) 1.5 unit increments and the number of units taught in the most recent of the four (4) assignment years referred to in Article 13.01 (d) is higher than the average, the allocation will be rounded up. (iii) In all other circumstances the average will be rounded to the lower 1.5 unit increment. (b) When a Continuing Sessional Lecturer has taught in more than one (1) academic unit, there will be a separate calculation for each academic unit and the Continuing Sessional Lecturer will have recall rights as specified for each unit. (c) Once the unit allocation and university allocation is calculated and established, these allocations will remain fixed until the next recalculation which will be done by February 15 or a date established by mutual agreement for the upcoming assignment year or except as reduced in accordance with the recall provisions of Article 25.02. (d) (i) When a Sessional Lecturer is on an approved Maternity or Parental Leave under Article 19.04, or longer term Compassionate Leave under Article 19.07 (a)(ii), or has been granted a long term leave of absence due to an extended illness (i.e. more than a short-term illness contemplated in Article 19.01), units that would have otherwise been worked during that time will be included in the next calculated Unit Allocation under Article 13. For a Term Sessional Lecturer, written confirmation from the unit administrator will be required to confirm the units that would otherwise have been assigned during the leave period.
