Long Term Leave of Absence. The District may grant any employee an unpaid long-term leave of absence for up to one (1) year for study, child rearing, travel, medical, or other mutually agreed to reason(s). Upon Board approval leave may be extended an additional year. Employees granted such a leave shall be permitted to stay on the District insurance programs at their own expense (carriers permitting), shall not gain or lose seniority or other benefits, but shall not be granted advancement credit on the salary schedule for the period of the leave. Upon return from such leave, the employee shall be entitled to the same position or a position substantially equivalent to the position held prior to the leave.

Long Term Leave of Absence. A long-term leave of absence may be requested for academic or professional study reasons, and may extend from four (4) to eighteen (18) months. While approval for such leave shall not be unreasonably withheld, staff members should not expect to necessarily return to the same position at the end of this leave. Where possible, a contract replacement may be appointed for the period of the regular staff member's leave.
Long Term Leave of Absence. The School District may grant a one (1) year leave of absence to a teacher after completion of his/her fifth year of teaching in the School District for professional reasons upon the recommendation of the Superintendent for advanced study, exchange teaching, travel abroad, or other purposes which the School District feels will be of direct benefit to students of the School District. Final decision in granting such leave of absence will rest solely with the School District.

Long Term Leave of Absence. Employees who request five (5) or more full days off without pay and fringe benefits must submit said request to the Union and the Hermantown School District for their agreement for a period of time satisfactory to both parties. Leaves of absence will not be granted for longer than one (1) year. An Employee, granted a leave of absence for a given school year, is required to submit a letter of intent to return to work for the subsequent school year by April 1. If the employee fails to submit the letter of intent, he or she will be removed from the seniority list and no longer considered an employee of the District.
Long Term Leave of Absence. 14.8.1. Upon written application and meeting of the eligibility requirements specified below, a teacher shall be granted leave of absence as follows: a) For the purposes of clause 14.8 it is understood that the total number of teachers on leave in any one (1) school year shall not exceed five per cent (5%) of the number of FTE teachers employed by the School Division. Furthermore, the School Division shall approve all eligible applications up to a number equivalent to five per cent (5%) of the number of FTE teachers in its employ. In the event that applications for leave exceed five per cent (5%) of the number of FTE teachers for a given school year, it is understood that the unsuccessful applicants be given first priority upon reapplication for the following school year. i. Teachers returning from leave (clause 14.8) shall be returned to the position held at the commencement of the leave. ii. The phrase “returned to the position held at the commencement of the leave” in clause 14.8.1
Long Term Leave of Absence. A long-term leave of absence may be requested by a Teacher provided that the request is in writing to the Director. Terms and conditions pertaining to the requested leave of absence shall be by mutual agreement in writing, between the Teacher and the Board. One of the conditions required for the approval is the Teacher agrees to notify the Board in writing of his/her intentions to return for the forthcoming school year (if leave is to continue beyond the end of the current year) as follows: a) for a leave of absence which is to commence at the beginning of a school year and continue for the entire school year, the Teacher agrees to notify the Board by March 1 (during the year of absence); b) for a leave of absence other that (a) above, the Teacher agrees to notify the Board by a mutually acceptable date agreed to by both parties. A Teacher on a long term leave of absence may participate in any of the Board’s group benefit plans during the leave of absence provided the Teacher pays the full cost of the premiums and also provided all terms and conditions of the leave of absence are complied with as mutually agreed upon and provided that the carrier permits it.
