Definition of Seniority and Service. Seniority and service for the purposes of this agreement shall operate on a bargaining unit wide basis. Full-time employees shall accumulate seniority and service on the basis of their last date of hire, except as amended otherwise in this Agreement. Where more than one (1) full- time employee has the same seniority date, their seniority order will be determined by lottery on their first date of employment. Part-time employees shall accumulate seniority and service on the basis of hours worked within the bargaining unit, except as expressly provided otherwise in this agreement. For part-time employees, it is recognized that seniority and service accumulates on the basis of eighteen hundred and fifty (1850) hours worked within the bargaining unit equals one (1) year of full seniority and service. For the purposes of seniority calculation, a part-time employee will not accrue more than eighteen hundred and fifty (1850) hours in any twelve (12) month period. For purposes of status change from full-time to part-time, or vice versa, eighteen hundred and fifty (1850) hours worked within the bargaining unit equals one (1) year of full seniority and service. Seniority is the determining factor in layoffs, recall, awarding job postings, and scheduling processes, unless otherwise expressly stated in this Collective Agreement. Service is used for compensation levels, such as vacation entitlement and wage entitlement, unless otherwise expressly stated in this Collective Agreement.
