Duties of Chairs. The duties and responsibilities of the position shall be established by the Xxxx/Director, following consultation with the Faculty Members of the department. Such information shall be made available to all prospective applicants and shall be subject to review by the parties to this Collective Agreement.
Duties of Chairs. The duties and responsibilities of the position shall be established by the President or his/her designate, following consultation with the faculty members of the department. Such information shall be made available to all prospective applicants and shall be subject to review by the Joint Faculty/Administration Committee.
Duties of Chairs. 27.01 Each Department shall have a Chair, who in addition to responsibilities as a member of the faculty, has other responsibilities. These responsibilities include:
(a) managing the operations of the Department;
(b) overseeing the administration of the Department in consultation with members of the Department;
(c) designating a deputy and advising the appropriate Xxxx accordingly in the event of an absence for a period longer than ten (10) working days;
(d) submitting to the appropriate Xxxx in writing an estimate of the Department's budgetary requirements for the ensuing year and administering the current Departmental budget;
(e) overseeing the use of space and equipment assigned to the Department;
(f) chairing the Departmental Committee or designating a representative to do so;
(g) representing the Department's interests within the University;
(h) recommending to the Xxxx the teaching duties and allocating other departmental responsibilities to members of the Department, after consultation, whenever possible, with the individual faculty member, and after consultation with all available members of the Department;
(i) convening meetings of the Department at least once each Fall and once each Winter term for the purpose of establishing matters of internal policy, or recommending policy to the appropriate bodies within the University;
(j) annually advising a probationary appointee whether or not the appointee’s performance is adequate, and where appropriate and feasible, advising remedial measures.
(k) forwarding to the Xxxx or Director of Human Resources, as appropriate, annual merit assessments and recommendations for department members and staff (see Article 16.02 (e)).
(l) providing the Chair designate with information and documents necessary to prepare to assume the office of Chair.
