Common use of Extended School Year Clause in Contracts

Extended School Year. 8.1 Effective June 1, 2014, the Extended School Year includes Teachers who provide Specialized Academic Instruction or Designated Instructional Services. This section is not applicable to teachers who may be employed in summer school programs that are not considered part of the Extended School Year program. 8.2 Teachers who are employed in the Severely Handicapped and Hearing Impaired programs, or who provide the Designated Instructional Services to the Severely Handicapped program, agree to work in the extended year program and accept the concept that children in these programs are in need of an extended school year. 8.3 Teachers who work an extended school year are required to work the same number of days as other Teachers covered by this Agreement in order to receive the base salary determined by their placement on the District's salary schedule. Additional salary remuneration will be granted on a per diem basis for additional days worked during the extended school year. 8.4 Teachers shall notify the District by March 15 in order to be excluded from teaching the extended school year. After March 15, Teachers may file requests to be excluded from teaching the extended year if conditions exist which would prevent them from doing so. The request shall be filed with the Assistant Superintendent, Human Resources. Teachers employed to work in the extended school year agree to work an additional period not to exceed thirty (30) days. 8.5 The Board agrees to declare its intent in regard to the adoption of the extended school year for Severely Handicapped students by April 20. Nothing in this declaration shall be construed as limiting the Board's right to cancel said intent in cases of loss of state funding or other factors beyond the Board's control. 8.6 The minimum days for the Extended School Year shall coincide with Summer School or be a minimum of twenty (20) days. For teachers teaching an Extended School Year, there will be no minimum days during the twenty-day period.

C. Building space to be used during the extended school yearsummer months for classes, library, study hall, teacher preparation time, administration and similar purposes shall be so selected or environmentally controlled as to provide for comfort and health with respect to temperature, humidity, ventilation and lighting as provided in (Act 306, Public Acts of 1937 as amended), the Michigan Department of Education School Plant Planning Handbook (1975) Physical Environment of the Building (IV, Pages 39-45, 57-59). 8.4 D. Adequate supplies, materials, equipment and inservice training shall be provided all staff which enter the ESY program. E. TSY Plymouth-Canton staff members shall be given priority status as daily substitutes in the ESY program at the daily substitute rate. Teachers shall notify the District by March 15 in order to be excluded from teaching considered for the extended school yearabove duties must declare their intention in writing to the Human Resources Department. After March 15TSY, Teachers may file requests to be excluded from teaching the extended year if conditions exist which would prevent them from doing so. The request ESY or laid off Plymouth-Canton staff members shall be filed with given priority status to temporarily replace regular ESY staff members while they are on vacation (i.e., summer periods or 3 week breaks). These teachers shall be paid their per diem rate of pay. ESY off-track teachers shall not be called as daily substitutes unless they have previously volunteered in writing to substitute. F. When necessary, and on a schedule determined by mutual agreement of the Assistant Superintendentindividual teacher and building principal involved, Human Resourcesup to twelve (12) additional hours per track vacation period shall be granted for the purpose of setting up and taking down. These shall be in excess of inservice time and shall be paid at the teacher’s per diem rate of pay. It is understood that the number of hours agreed upon may be less than twelve (12). Six (6) hours of set up/take down time shall be considered one school day. G. Teachers employed and administrators of an ESY building will work together to work establish guidelines and to implement the program in the extended school year agree to work an additional period not to exceed thirty (30) daysbuilding. 8.5 The Board agrees to declare its intent in regard to the adoption of the extended school year for Severely Handicapped students by April 20.
