Common use of Extended Sick Leave Without Pay Clause in Contracts

Extended Sick Leave Without Pay. 19.2.1 If an employee is ill for a prolonged period of time and because of such long period of absence he has exhausted all of his paid leave credits, including the half-pay benefits provided by this Agreement, such employee, upon request, may be granted an extended sick leave of absence without pay, provided that that employee has submitted a physician’s statement certifying the nature of the employee’s illness and when the employee will be able to return to work. Extended sick leaves of absence without pay may be granted up to one (1) year, but no more than once during each four (4) years of continuous service.

Extended sick leaves of absence without pay may Such extension shall be granted up to for not more than one (1) yearyear and shall be granted under such conditions, but as the Employer deems appropriate. However, no more than once during each four (4) years of continuous serviceemployees shall earn or accumulate any benefits while on such leave.
