Extended Tours. Introduction and discontinuation of a compressed work week (extended tour) (a) A compressed work week shall be introduced into any unit when: i) eighty per cent (80%) of the employees in the unit so indicate by secret ballot; and ii) the Alliance agrees to implement the compressed work week, such agreement shall not be withheld in an unreasonably arbitrary manner. (b) A compressed work week may be discontinued in any unit when: i) fifty per cent (50%) of the employees in the unit so indicate by secret ballot; or ii) the Alliance because of A) adverse effects on patient care, B) inability to provide a workable staffing schedule, C) the cost of staffing utilizing extended tours being appreciably greater than staffing utilizing a 7.5 hour tour rotation. states its intention to discontinue the compressed work week in the schedule. (d) Nurses who work extended tours shall be scheduled off at least every second weekend, unless mutually agreed otherwise. (e) No more than three (3) consecutive extended tours shall be scheduled, unless by mutual agreement. If fulla nurse is scheduled to work on a fourth (4th) consecutive and subsequent tour, she/he will receive premium pay for each tour so worked until a day off is scheduled. (f) Part-time lines are scheduled a combination of nurses who work both seven and one one-half (7.507 ½) hour and eleven and one quarter (11.25) hour shiftsextended tours, they shall not be scheduled to work in combination more than thirty-seven four (4) consecutive tours. If a nurse is scheduled to work on a fifth (5th) consecutive and one half (37subsequent tour, she/he will receive premium pay for each tour so worked until a day off is scheduled.

(b) A compressed work week may be discontinued in any unit when: i) fifty per cent (50%) percent of the employees nurses in the unit so indicate by secret ballot; or ii) the Alliance Hospital because of A) adverse effects on patient care, B) inability to provide a workable staffing schedule,, or C) where the cost of staffing utilizing extended tours being appreciably greater than staffing utilizing a 7.5 hour tour rotation. Hospital wishes to do so for other reasons which are neither unreasonable nor arbitrary, states its intention to discontinue the compressed work week in the schedule.; (c) When notice of discontinuation is given by either party in accordance with paragraph (2) above, then: i) the parties shall meet within two (2) weeks of the giving of notice to review the request for discontinuation; and ii) where it is determined that the compressed work week will be discontinued, affected employees shall be given sixty (60) days notice before the schedules are so amended. (d) If full-time lines are scheduled a combination of seven and one half (7.50Scheduling regulations for extended tours shall be as follows: i) hour and eleven and one quarter (11.25) hour shifts, they shall not be scheduled Not more than thirty-three (3) extended tours may be scheduled. Following three (3) consecutive tours, employees shall have two (2) days off duty. ii) The maximum number of tours worked in any given seven and one half (377) day period shall be five (5). iii) The Employer will endeavour to schedule alternate weekends off but at least two (2) weekends off in four (4) will be scheduled. Failure to abide by the above scheduling regulations shall result in premium payment being paid in accordance with the provisions of Article 14.03.
