Common use of Float Pool Clause in Contracts

Float Pool. An internal replacement service staffed by regular status employees will be provided during the term of this agreement by the Employer to provide staffing assistance throughout the region in classifications determined by the Employer. If a Regional Float Pool is maintained, the following will apply to employees of that Regional Department: (1) Regular status Float Pool employees shall be hired to work up to forty (40) hours per week and shall be eligible for benefits, seniority, and tenure adjustments as described in the Agreement between the parties for regular full-time or regular part-time employees, except as provided herein. (2) The Float Pool may hire on-call employees to replace regular Float Pool employees' assignments due to vacancies, vacations, illness, etc. or to work additional Float Pool assignments. On-call employees within the Float Pool are subject to contract provisions, Article 4, Section 5. It is understood that part of the expectation for on-call employees is availability for short-notice, same day assignments. On-call employees must follow the normal policies and procedures of the organization and Float Pool department, i.e., timekeeping, call-in, performance standards, etc. (3) Employees hired for or assigned to the Float Pool shall be cross-trained to work in multiple facilities, work units and/or departments. New employees to the Float Pool shall receive an orientation and training period relevant to their experience and knowledge, consistent with established standards and expectations of existing organizational programs. Orientation and training will include appropriate on-site and department placement. (4) Employees will be available for pre-scheduled, short-notice or same day assignments. Employees that are required to be available for same day assignment will be available between 7:00 am and 9:00 am and shall be subject to the following provisions: (a.) the employee shall be paid three dollars ($3.00) per hour for each hour spent in such capacity, and three dollars and fifty cents ($3.50) per hour for each hour spent in such capacity on a recognized holiday, (b.) when assigned on a same day basis, actual work time shall begin when the employee arrives at the work area ready to begin work and shall end when the employee completes the assignment and leaves the work area. Pay for hours worked shall be at the employee's regular straight-time rate of pay, excluding hours worked in excess of forty (40). Failure to be available for same day assignments more than once a year may result in disciplinary action. Exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis. Employees may indicate preference for locations, departments, and scheduled days off. If an employee's request for preference of location or department assignment cannot be accommodated due to qualifications needed, staffing needs, feedback forms, etc., the Employer will assign the employees to facilities as needed. Consideration will be given to granting preference for scheduled days off subject to efficient operations and adequate staffing. Preferences for days off will be scheduled by Float Pool seniority. (5) Requests for unscheduled PTO days (personal time off) shall be submitted at least twenty-four (24) hours in advance. Approval shall be granted subject to efficient department operations. Responses to such requests shall be provided as timely as practical given when the request was submitted. (6) Upon completion of twelve (12) months of recent service in the Float Pool, the Float Pool employee's FTE to worked hours will be reviewed, and adjusted to reflect the actual hours paid. Upon completion of twelve (12) months of uninterrupted service (leaves of absence will be bridged) in the Float Pool, Float Pool employees may request a reduction of their FTE. Consideration will be given to granting a reduction of FTE, subject to necessary staffing, efficient operations, and seniority. The Employer will make every reasonable effort to allow at least 10% of any job classification to maintain an FTE of 0.6, and 10% of any job classification to maintain an FTE of 0.8. (7) Float Pool employees shall be paid a premium of one dollar twenty-five cents ($1.25) per hour for all hours worked. (8) Float Pool employees who are required by the Employer to travel from one work assignment to another during the course of the workday shall be eligible for travel time up to a designated amount of time allowed for distances between each facility. The designated travel time shall be calculated into total hours worked for pay purposes. (9) The Employer will reimburse Float Pool employees for any business related mileage beyond the distance between the employee's home and the nearest Xxxxxx Permanente facility. In consideration for this arrangement, the reimbursement rate will be at the Internal Revenue Service nontaxable mileage allowance referred to in the Agreement. (10) Employees shall be eligible to bid on promotions after six (6) months of service and on lateral or downward transfers after twelve (12) months of services. Employees who transfer into the Float Pool will be given thirty (30) days to decide whether they wish to remain in the Float Pool. If such employee decides not to remain in the Float Pool, the employee must notify Float Pool management in writing and will be subject to the provisions as specified in Article 6, Section 4, Paragraph B.
