Health Insurance for Full Time Unit Members Hired After July 1, 2013. A. The District shall provide health insurance for the duration of a unit member's lifetime, individual plan only, who resigns from the Sagaponack Common School District for the purpose of retirement from the New York State Teachers Retirement System (NYSTRS) and who has served the district wholly within the Sagaponack Common School District for a minimum of 20 years. B. Upon retirement, eligible unit members shall continue to contribute towards the cost of their premiums at the percentage rate that is in effect for active members of the Unit. (See Section 4.01 (A) of this contract.) Retirees will lock in at the rate of contribution that they are leaving at for the rest of their lives. When the retiree becomes Medicare eligible, Medicare will become primary and the District's health insurance will become secondary. The percentage rate of retiree contribution remains the same. C. If the retiree has purchased family coverage through the District prior to retirement and/or wishes to purchase family coverage upon retirement, the District contribution will remain at the individual level and the retiree will be responsible for the entire premium difference. D. If the unit member pre-deceases his/her spouse, the District's obligation to pay for health insurance concludes. At that point, the unit member's spouse may choose to buy into the District's health insurance program at no expense to the District.
