HOURS AND AMOUNTS OF WORK. Section A. Preparation Period (Revised January, 2005) Each professional employee will be provided preparation time of no less than an average of forty-five minutes per day, except when periods are shortened to accommodate assemblies, programs, or other school activities. Blocks of preparation time shall be continuous and of not less than thirty minutes. In the event that a professional employee is required to perform supervisory tasks during scheduled preparation periods, compensation at the established substitute teacher rate will be paid such employees. In extenuating circumstances, plan time will be no less than one 30-minute block. This will be worked out between the individual teacher and administrator. Section B. No Contracted Teacher (Revised July, 2019) In order to cover classes that are without a contracted, certified teacher, the Board of Education will pay twice the substitute hourly rate per class period to those certified teachers on staff who are willing to assume such classes. Teachers who accept responsibility for the students of an absent fellow teacher for a half day or more shall be entitled to receive additional compensation at the substitute teacher rate. If the class of the absent teacher is divided evenly between two other teachers, each shall be entitled to additional compensation equal to one-half the substitute teacher rate. This provision shall only apply when the teacher is responsible for the extra students for a half day or more. Section C. School Day (Revised September, 2006 and July, 2019) For the purposes of this section, school day is defined as that time when the professional employee is responsible for the supervision of the students assigned thereto. The school day for the various buildings in the District is as follows:
