The School Cancellations clause outlines the procedures and responsibilities in the event that school sessions are canceled. Typically, this clause specifies the circumstances under which cancellations may occur, such as inclement weather or emergencies, and details how notifications will be communicated to students, parents, and staff. It may also address whether and how missed days will be made up or rescheduled. The core function of this clause is to ensure all parties are informed and prepared for disruptions, minimizing confusion and maintaining safety and continuity in the educational process.
School Cancellations. (a) Up to the hour equivalent of four district-wide cancellation days per school year shall be paid to drivers by the District. Bus monitors shall be paid up to the hour equivalent of four district-wide cancellation days per school year.
(b) If school is canceled beyond four events per year a driver or a bus monitor may use sick or personal time for the hour equivalent of 2 (two) additional days canceled. If school is cancelled beyond one event per year a monitor may use sick or personal time for the hour equivalent of 2 (two) additional days cancelled. If the school year is extended because of cancellation, the employee is expected to report for all additional days scheduled unless directed otherwise.
School Cancellations. If school is canceled after the start of the employee’s scheduled workday, the employee will be compensated for a minimum of two (2) hours pay.
School Cancellations. Ohio Revised Code §3313.48, mandates local school districts convert a district’s school calendar measured in days to now reflect and be measured in hours. According to R.C. §3313.48, as amended, the Board of Education must be open for instruction for a minimum of: 450 hours for half-day kindergarten; 910 hours for full-day kindergarten and grades 1-6; and 1001 hours for grades 7-12 per academic year.
School Cancellations. In the event all schools are canceled prior to the start of an employee’s work day due to inclement weather or conditions not within the control of the District, the following procedures will apply:

If scheduled instructional days are cancelled due to inclement weather or other conditions which make it impractical to hold classes, employees will be compensated at their daily rate of pay for the first four (4) of these days that occur. All make up days will be without additional compensation, except for time card employees.
School Cancellations. Paraprofessionals who report to work on a school day shall be guaranteed a minimum of three hours of pay at their straight time rate if school is cancelled subsequent to reporting to work. Employees will be alerted by phone call in instances of weather cancellations and delays. The notification will be made no later than 6:00am. Employees will report to work with the same prorated schedules as students with delayed weather openings and leave work after parent pick-up and all buses have left during early release due to weather.
School Cancellations. The school will give a minimum of notice of 3 working days if they wish to cancel a session. We require as much notice as reasonably possible in the event of a cancellation of appointments so that staff can reallocate other work and effectively manage their diaries. We understand that there are times when children may be unwell and suggest that schools/settings have alternative children/work available in these instances. If the school has not given the minimum amount of notice resulting the in SEWS losing time, that cannot be allocate elsewhere the session will be charged. If there appears to be several instances where the school/setting has cancelled sessions the SEWS line manager may be involved in order to provide support for a solution to be reached.
School Cancellations. The District agrees that employees are allowed to use their personal days when school is cancelled.
School Cancellations. In case school is canceled due to an act of God, teachers are not expected to report for work (intent being when students will not be in attendance). Further, they will not be charged a sick day or a bonus day or a personal leave day if one had been requested. If, however, school is canceled after the reporting time for a given teacher and the teacher has been granted a bonus day, personal leave day, or sick day, s/he will be charged accordingly. In case school is canceled for an individual building, teachers will not be expected to report to work.
School Cancellations. If the attendance center to which a teacher is assigned is closed due to inclement weather, the teacher shall not be required to report to work. The Board or its designee will give notification by announcement to local media outlets and through electronic alerts as early as possible. The Board directs the Superintendent to inform/update the Board regularly about the amount of time accumulated toward attendance requirements for all students. In the event the calendar needs to be adjusted and instructional time needs to be added, the Superintendent will, time permitting, convene and discuss possible options with the Calendar Committee. The Board will make the final decision for the academic calendar based upon the options presented by the Superintendent. Under no circumstances will inservice dates be used to make up lost instructional time in the event of a school cancellation.
