ILLNESS AND DISABILITY. A. All teachers regularly employed for the school year who are absent from duty because of illness and/or physical disability including maternity, shall be allowed annual sick leave will be accumulated on a full daily pay at the rate of ten (10) days per year year. These ten (10) days shall be credited to the teacher’s account at the beginning of the school year.
2. Each teacher shall be entitled to accumulate the unused portion of each year’s sick leave to a maximum of one hundred fifty (150100) days beginning with the 1990-91 contract year and remaining at one hundred fifty (150) for each remaining contract yeardays. If, any unused sick days above (150) one hundred fifty at the end of the school year year, a teacher has accumulated sick leave up to one hundred ten (110) days, the teacher shall be placed paid for each day over one hundred (100) at the substitute rate in effect at that time.
3. All teachers shall follow the reporting procedures outlined by the administration at the start of school year.
4. Teachers who are absent the last workday before and/or the first workday after a holiday may be required to submit a doctor’s statement for that day. A failure to submit the required doctor’s statement for the absence(s) shall result in the member reimbursing the district for the cost of the substitute for the day or days absent.
5. In the case of an illness or an injury compensated for by Worker’s Compensation the teacher’s pay shall be the difference between his/her regular daily salary and the amount paid by the Worker’s Compensation Insurance. Sick leave days shall be charged in the same proportion as amount paid by the Board of Education.
6. Teachers employed on a part‐time basis, or for a part of the school year, shall have sick bankleave allowance in proportion to the time employed.
7. The yearly ten (10) days will A statement of the teacher’s sick leave account shall be available presented to each teacher no later than the fourth Monday following Labor Day and/or the opening of the school year.
8. A teacher reporting for duty at the beginning of each school year providing the teachers reports his/her workday who is forced to leave because of illness or accident any time after two (2) hours of duty shall be considered absent for work on the first work day sick leave purposes for one‐half (1/2) day. If forced to leave because of illness or injury after two‐thirds (2/3) of the contract year working day has been completed, he/she is to be considered present the entire day and completes that first day. Should a teacher be unable to report for work on the first work day or be unable to complete that day due to illness or other condition provided under Section 4.3B, the ten (10) days will be granted upon the teacher's return to work with days missed deducted from previously accumulated sick leave. Should a teacher have no previously accumulated deduction of sick leave or used up all previously accumulated sick leavesalary is to be made.

If a teacher is absent for a period of more than three (3) consecutive contract days, that teacher, upon return to work, will receive the yearly ten (10) days less the number of days missed in excess of previously accumulated sick leave. Should a teacher be confronted with a serious, long- term illness of a spouse, son, daughter, or parent that teacher may upon request be granted a leave for up to twelve (12) weeks to care for that person provided the teacher shall first provide certification from a physician that the teacher is needed to provide care and the length of time the teacher will probably be needed to provide that care. Leave time will be charged against the teacher's accumulated sick leave. In the event a teacher does not have sufficient sick leave accumulated to cover the full extent of the leave the remaining leave time will be granted as unpaid leave. Should unpaid leave be granted the Board shall maintain health benefits for that teacher during the unpaid leave time.
4. Death in the immediate family Immediate family is here defined as child, spouse, parent, parent-in-law, brother, sister, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandparent and grandchild. A teacher may be granted up to a maximum of five (5) days per death with approval of the superintendent granted, and after the use of emergency leave as defined in 4.1D.c.
C. Use of sick leave for medical appointments shall be limited to one half (1/2) day per visit, unless extended by the superintendent for extenuating circumstances.

E. The teacher may be required at the Superintendent's discretion to submit a physician's statement attesting to physical or mental health. If an examination is necessary, cost of examination to be paid for by the school district. When the Association and Board agree a second opinion may be required.

G. Part time certified personnel shall receive sick leave benefits in an amount equal to a ratio between the amount of time they work and full time employment.
