Illness or Injury in the Family. Independent verification by a physician explaining the nature and severity of the illness or injury to the family member requiring the student to be absent will be required within forty-eight (48) hours, (i.e. two (2) business days), of the student’s return to school.

Illness or Injury in the Family. Temporary leave or leave of absence with pay of not more than a total of five (5) days per contract year shall be granted for the purpose of caring for a seriously injured or seriously ill member of the matrix person’s immediate family. The “im- mediate family” shall be defined as spouse, child*, mother, father, grandparent, brother, sister, xxxxxxxxxx, stepbrother, stepsister, stepmother, stepfather, mother-in-law, father-in- law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law or a person who has lived in the employee’s home as a mem- ber of the family for at least twelve (12) consecutive previ- ous months. Upon request of the Human Resources Office, the matrix person shall provide, upon return from leave, the name and address of the attending physician and a release for such attending physician to provide verification of the nature of the injury or illness. If illness or injury in the family leave pursuant to this item is taken beyond the above limits, said leave shall be charged to employee’s sick leave. * Child in- cludes: son, daughter, stepson, or stepdaughter, or a child who has lived in the employee’s home as a member of the family for at least twelve (12) consecutive months and placed by an authorized placement agency. (Abnormal situations will be discussed).
