Illness or Injury. As defined by Education Code section 44043.5(a)(1) “catastrophic illness” or “injury” means an illness or injury that is expected to incapacitate the employee for an extended period of time, or that incapacitates a member of the employee’s family, and such incapacity requires the employee to take time off from work for an extended period of time for that family member, and taking extended time off work creates a financial hardship for the employee because he or she has exhausted all of his or her sick leave and other paid time off.
Illness or Injury means illness or injury other than illness or injury that renders a person totally incapacitated by physical or mental infirmity from maintaining himself or herself;
Illness or Injury. Catastrophic illness or injury means an illness that is expected to incapacitate the bargaining unit member for an extended period of time, or that incapacitates a member of the unit member’s family which incapacity requires the unit member to take time off from work for an extended period of time to care for that family member, and taking such extended time off from work creates a financial hardship for the unit member because they have exhausted all of their sick leave and other paid time off. Catastrophic illness or injury does not include elective surgery, normal pregnancy, worker’s compensation, disabilities resulting from the current use ofalcohol or drugs, intentionally self-inflicted injuries, or normal illness such as colds, flu, allergies, headaches, etc.

Examples of Illness or Injury in a sentence

  • Shall be defined as remedial Services for an Illness or Injury by means of intermittent positive pressure breathing equipment.

  • Charges incurred by a Covered Person from newborn to seventeen (17) years of age for services rendered solely for the purpose of health maintenance and not for the Treatment of an Illness or Injury.

  • Inpatient and Outpatient Covered Services include surgical services that are generally recognized and accepted procedures for diagnosing or treating an Illness or Injury.

More Definitions of Illness or Injury

Illness or Injury means a physical or mental health prob- lem that has been diagnosed by a licensed physician, dentist, optometrist, or audiologist.

It does not include any mental illnesses but it does include attempted suicide. Further, it does not include emergency transportation when the person transported was biologically dead when the ambulance transportation commenced;
