Violence in the Workplace. (a) The parties agree that violence shall be defined as any incident in which an employee is abused, threatened or assaulted while performing his or her work. The parties agree it includes the application of force, threats with or without weapons and severe verbal abuse. The parties agree that such incidents will not be condoned. Any employee who believes he/she has been subjected to such incident shall report this to a supervisor who will make every reasonable effort to rectify the situation. For purposes of sub-article (a) only, employees as referred to herein shall mean all employees of the Employer notwithstanding Article 2.12.
(b) The Employer agrees to develop formalized policies and procedures in consultation with the Joint Health and Safety Committee to deal with workplace violence. The policy will address the prevention of violence and the management of violent situations and support to employees who have faced workplace violence. These policies and procedures shall be communicated to all employees. The local parties will consider appropriate measures and procedures in consultation with the Joint Health and Safety Committee to address violence in the workplace, which may include, among other measures and procedures:
i) Alert employees about a person with a known history of aggressive and responsive behaviours and their known triggers by means of:
A) electronic and/or other appropriate flagging systems,
B) direct verbal communication / alerts (i.e. shift reports),
ii) Communicate and provide appropriate training and education,
iii) Reporting all incidents of workplace violence,
iv) Long-term care home wide violence risk assessments.
(c) The Employer will report all incidents of violence as defined herein to the Joint Health and Safety Committee for review.
(d) The Employer agrees to provide training and information on the prevention of violence to all employees who come into contact with potentially aggressive persons. This training will be done during a new employee’s orientation and updated as required.
(e) Subject to appropriate legislation, and with the employee’s consent, the Employer will inform the Union within three (3) days of any employee who has been subjected to violence while performing his/her work. Such information shall be submitted in writing to the Union as soon as practicable.

Violence in the Workplace. 20.01 (a) Definition of Violence
Violence in the Workplace. O-1 Definition of Violence The Hospital agrees that no form of verbal, physical, sexual, racial or other abuse of employees will be condoned in the workplace. The Hospital will post a notice on all Units advising that no form of abuse will be tolerated in the workplace.
Violence in the Workplace. Should an employee become a victim of an act of violence or threatened act of violence in the workplace, the Employer shall perform the following;
(a) The Employer shall immediately conduct an investigation into the act or threatened act of violence;
(b) A written report shall be produced by Management within seven (7) days of the Employer becoming aware of the incident;
(c) The Union shall be provided with a copy of this report;
(d) No complainant shall suffer loss of wages or benefits while the matter is pending resolution;
(e) This Article does not limit Management’s ability to discipline employees.
Violence in the Workplace. M-1 (a) Definition of Violence The Employer agrees that no form of verbal, physical, sexual, racial or other abuse which may cause physical or psychological injury or that gives a person reason to believe that s/he or another person is at risk of physical and or psychological injury will be condoned in the workplace. Any employee who believes the situation to be abusive shall report this to the immediate supervisor who will take every precaution reasonable to rectify the abusive situation.
Violence in the Workplace. The Employer and the Union agree that violence against employees in the workplace is not desirable and agree to work in concert to reduce the incidence and causal factors of violence. To that end, the following shall apply:
a) Definition of Violence Violence shall be defined as the attempted, threatened or actual conduct of a person that causes or is likely to cause injury and includes any threatening statement or behaviour that gives an employee reasonable cause to believe that they are at risk of injury during the course of his/her employment.
Violence in the Workplace. The parties recognise that employees may be exposed to unwanted behaviour from others in the workplace and that such behaviour may result in injury and/or emotional distress to an employee. The Hospital agrees to continue its development of explicit policies and procedures to deal with such situations and shall submit such policies to the Joint Health and Safety Committee for review. The Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee shall concern it’s self with those matters and shall make such recommendations as it deems appropriate.
Violence in the Workplace. M-1
(a) Violence shall be defined as any incident in which an employee is abused, threatened or assaulted during the course of their employment. The Hospital agrees that these incidents will not be condoned in the workplace. Any employee who believes their situation was abusive shall report this to their immediate supervisor who will make every reasonable effort to rectify the situation.
(b) The parties agree that if incidents involving an aggressive patient or visitor occurs, such action will be recorded and reviewed at the Occupational Health and Safety Committee. Reasonable steps within the control of the Hospital will follow to address the legitimate health and safety concerns of the nurses presented in that forum. The parties further agree that suitable subjects for discussion at the Hospital Association Committee will include aggressive patients.
(c) Within three (3) days of being notified that an employee has been assaulted while performing their work, the Occupational Health and Safety Department shall notify the Bargaining Unit President or designate, in writing. The assaulted employee may choose to have their name remain confidential. Updated statistics on numbers of staff assaulted while performing work will be brought to each meeting of the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
(d) When an employee, in the exercise of their functions, suffers damage to their personal belongings (clothing, watch, glasses, contact lenses or other prosthesis, etc.), the Hospital shall provide for replacement or repair at no cost to the employee. The employee will endeavour to present their claim to the Hospital within seven (7) days after the event, unless it was impossible for them to do so during this period.
Violence in the Workplace. The Employer will establish a violence program or review the existing program where one is in place. This will be done within the Occupational Health and Safety Committee or the Labour Management Committee.
