Illness in Family. A leave of absence without pay consistent with the Family Leave Act of up to one (1) year shall be granted for the purpose of caring for a sick member of the employee’s immediate family. Additional leave may be granted at the discretion of the Board.

Illness in Family. Emergency or Special Circumstances
Illness in Family. 1. A leave of absence, with pay, for one day may be granted by a commanding officer to any member of his/her command in case of serious illness in his/her immediate family or other extraordinary emergency. 2. Employees reporting an absence under the provisions of Subsection 1, above, shall be governed by the Rules and Regulations of the Police Department.
Illness in Family. Employees shall be permitted to be absent from their duties from the Macomb Intermediate School District without loss of pay because of illness in the immediate family subject to the following considerations: A. A maximum of two (2) days annually may be used chargeable against accumulated allowable days of absence as defined in Section 5C. After allowable sick days are used an additional two (2) days may be granted by the Superintendent because of illness in the immediate family. B. The immediate family for purposes of this section shall be defined as spouse, children, any person acceptable as an exemption on the employee's Federal Income Tax or any person who makes his/her home with the employee and in the judgment of the Superintendent is economically, emotionally and socially dependent on the employee. C. Absences shall be considered as necessary only when no other arrangements for care are possible. D. The "necessary care" must be such as would be prescribed by a physician or required by incompetency of the person requiring care. E. In all cases "other arrangements" are usually considered possible within (1) day after the emergency.

Illness in Family. All members of the bargaining unit shall be allowed three (3) days leave per year with pay (non-deductible from sick leave and non-accumulative) in case of serious illness, major surgery or serious accident involving the teachers' spouse or parents. These days shall also be allowed for children; however, if the leave use has been frequent or suspicion of abuse exists, the administration may require that the attending physician certify that the parent's presence was necessary. Additional days (deductible from sick leave) may be granted at the discretion of the Superintendent in an extreme case or for a person who has an established and recognized home in the home of the teacher.
Illness in Family. Up to ten (10) school days, charged against sick leave, shall be permitted for illness in the immediate family, including spouse, child, parent, mother-in-law and father-in-law, or anyone who lives regularly in the household of the unit member. (See also Article 20. 1.) Members may request an extension of allowable leave by contacting the Director of Human Resources or the Superintendent.
