Independent Study Facilitators/On-line Student Mentors. 1. Independent Study FacilitatorsBargaining unit members whom the Board may determine to use as independent study facilitators shall be compensated at $20.00 per hour for facilitating opportunities for students outside of the basic workday for teachers (as referenced in Article 6). Such compensation is based on hours worked not the number of students participating in the independent study. Prior to the initiation of an independent study program at a high school, the teacher will submit the following items to the building principal for review.  Narrative description of the program that will be delivered. If the course is not one previously approved, a new course proposal form and course outline must be submitted with the written request.  Description of how the Independent Study Program will be delivered including time of day, length of instruction, and physical location.  Approximate total number of hours required per term. This total can include preparation work that takes place outside of the teacher’s basic workday. During the regular scheduled student day request for facilitation of independent study programs as described above, or variations, must be forwarded by the principal to the Department of Instruction for prior approval. A memo confirming the estimated number of hours to be engaged and compensated will be provided to the employee by the Human Resources Office.
